peck, the purple sounds great. If I remember correctly didn't you get a cooke that had some purple in it? I wear purple shirts and the chicks dig em.

An epic haul, Peck. More than enough to justify billing your time in Chicago to some hapless client. The Cooke, Markle, and Davidsons are especially to my taste.
I too got around to meeting Lars Ivarsson for the first time this year. I was a little trepidatious about shaking his hand; given his carpal tunnel problems I didn't want the rest of the pipe world to rise up against me if I squeezed too hard and his commission backlog was delayed a few years.
I'm sorry I didn't track you down and introduce myself. Fortunately I know that one Chicago is never enough, and I'll have another chance next year.

Dang Peck, I was there... I wish we had run into each other!
BTW, Michael was very kind to share his source with me for his ivory celluloid. It's a bit pricy, but truly stunning material. I was smitten with the looks of it!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the show!

Walt, I did not even know that you were at the show. The one thing that drove me nuts was they don't give you a layout map that shows where the exhibitors are located in the convention center. There is a map at the entrance table where you buy tickets, but it is a pain to run back there just to check where a particular person is sitting. They really should hand out a layout map that you can carry with you, much like would happen at a car show.
Another tip - the line up to buy tickets was quite long on Saturday morning. However, I bypassed the line by going to the Chicago Pipe Club table and buying a membership to that club, which allows you to walk right in and avoid the line. It costs $5 more for a membership than it does for an admission ticket, but it was $5 well spent to avoid a long line.

Peck,

It was great to meet you in Chicago despite the fact that we didn't converse very much. Everyone was on a mission at the pre sale in the tent on Friday, including myself. lol

Wonderful choice in pipes by some very reputable makers. Love 'em all, (the Pipes)!!

As for a white celluloid stem----- do you realize how flammable that material is??? I remember celluloid items when I was a young lad, and one match would destroy an item made of that material in an instant. Incredible blast on that pipe. All I can say is wow.

Happy smokes,

Andy

Lost track of this thread.
Andy (Docwatson) is was great finally meeting you as well. One of the best things about the show was meeting a bunch of guys from the forum, though sadly I did not get a chance to meet everyone. I did meet Brian Levine, but never crossed paths with Kevin and others.
On the Saturday night myself and a bunch of guys from the fourm (and others) went to Gibson's steakhouse in Chicago. Best steak I have ever had, and I have been to Peter Lugers numerous time.
If you are driving around Chicago I do have one tip - make sure you have lots of US$ change. Many toll booths are unmanned and you need exact change. I had to run a few toll booths and I am sure they will be hunting for me. I am a marked man now.

"Interestingly, they were filming that documentary (My Father The Flame or whatever it's called) during the show..."
I heard that the crew had to leave prematurely, as there were no artisan pipes to film...peck had purchased them all! :)

As usual, you have made everyone green with envy. Haven't been on the forums much so I missed this post.
Glad you had a great time and scored such an awesome collection of pipes.

Members are relieved and contented that Peck is back in town, with photos to prove his Chicago exploits. The pipes ... oooh-la-la. What a trove!
