Not wording but advice and some narrative ... fish'n'banjo on the merits of small pipes opened a whole new door on those for me ... and foggymountain's memories of working in pipe shops in Manhattan in the fifties, and his discernment on various Dunhill series, though I'm not a Dunhill owner/smoker. Not to mention a couple of dozen other regular posting members who impart so much info, insight, and energy here, and those who are incredibly generous with samples, a pipe (!), and a good joke. I could go on...and may.

I've gained so much knowledge here it's hard to choose just one.

Thanks to Duane though for introducing me to Black Frigate, as well as Mixture 79, which while not great, was not as bad as so many think it is.

I never knew that the size of the pipe a person smokes accurately reflects their shoe size.

Never believe what you hear or read about a tobacco or pipe until you try them yourself.

One tip I have really appreciated was from Sable (I think!). Namely leave a pipe cleaner in your stem while loading your tobacco to prevent a blockage of the airway. Thanks, Jesse.

Most of what I know I learned on the forums, especially the stuff said by members with a rep. Then when I questioned all of that I threw out half. Then I knew what I knew to be absolute truth and attempted to be a big shot, which didn't make me popular, or right. Now I'm quietly obnoxious in ever-present certitude, and having quit smoking, I guess, I await the next step of my evolution.

I learned cob's can be smoked much longer than I thought. Initially I thought you were supposed to toss them after a few weeks

I learned that if it’s not here on this site it’s probably not worth knowing! J/k I am learning new things everyday here from everybody so I would say my pearl is the wealth of information as a whole in this site both in words and ability to ask a real live person a question.

Dry your tobacco more. If you don't like it, save it and come back in a month or two. Those are valuable. But actually it's the whole diverse universe that this forum is, that in itself is a source of pipesmokers wisdom. This forum is full of guys with knowledge, eloquence and humour and is therefore both entertaining and enlightening.

Never speak of your favorite tobacco until you have 100 pounds of it cellared.

There is a modicum of truth to this statement.
This has been a good thread. I love reading others thoughts.

I've picked up two pearls at least ... these are the ones that pop from my leaky memory.
First from CE when he claimed that aromatics should be smoked by more experienced smokers. The idea makes a lot of sense.
Second from ashdigger. It was through him that I learned about the very fine carving being done by Ryan Alden. I do hope to commission a pipe from him.
