That's a great write up of what you did to bring this pipe back to glory and it looks way better. Enjoy in good health

Hello, I hope this is a thread for other members too, placing their PAD... incidents.

Well, no need to repeat the same things over and over again: "I absolutely did Not need another pipe, there is No cure, there is No hope!...) etc.
So, plain and simple, I just preordered the annivesary pipe 2024 for 10 years of GL pipes in the craft! Congratulations to the (very talented in my opinion) carver and an absolutely great guy: George Leoussis! Hoping we' ll be standing on our feet with full bowls, when the 2034 anniverary pipe will come out...

Two Birthday Volcanos added to the collection:

1. A Briarworks Handmade by Micah Redmond, Big bowl on this one. Plateau base. Nice blast!
2. An Israeli made Alpha gifted from a pal's late father's collection: "This one has the least amount of chew marks from the ones I got" Ran some 2020 CRF through it to re-break it in. Smooth Smoker!

Back on the Tilshead…

I sanded the chamber to remove cake, and let me see the condition of the underlying wood.

There are a few small stress cracks that run vertically, and some charred out spots. The airway is a little ragged. I will cover this with a thin coating of activated charcoal/waterglass to smooth the interior out. Not really necessary, but since I’m I’m into it this far, it’s not a lot of extra work.

Tapered the airway and chamfered the face of the airway on the stem.

Now I’ll go have cigar before I make dinner…

Could I do the same if the stem is made out of Acrylic? Or only with the ebonite?

Congratulations, you risk having made a spectacular purchase.
I have an identical one and it is my best pipe in many respects: excellent flavour, comfortable in the mouth, light but very roomy...also quite beautiful. If I were smart I would only smoke that.

After falling in love with my Ropp 321 vintage, but absolutely hating the stem, I wanted to see what else there was in this shape/size. I hate (but tolerate) the tiny round stem on the 321. Uncomfortable to clench.

I got lucky and found this Briarworks. It's more than I like to spend on a pipe, but I know I'll love it. Same length, but shorter. And it has a wider flatter stem. I found it last night, and told myself I'd sleep on it. (Very mature of me I know, thank you) Woke up thinking about the pipe this morning to find it with a 5% off. Well there was my sign.

Bonus: I like factory machine made pipes, but prefer handcut stems. That's exactly what these pipes are.

I think Im done buying pipes now.

I don't think BW stems are hand cut but might be hand finished. They can be a little thick but not obnoxiously unlike forever stems on cobs. Show us some pics when it comes in!

Arrived one day early! Birthday was yesterday, so this is my gift to myself.oh and the 20 pouches of 5 bros that arrived too.
It's absolutely perfect. Is there a briarworks show us thread? I couldn't find one.

And yes not a "handcut" stem, but it's smooth, polished, and actually better than some handcut stems I've received in the past.
Not a huge fan of the bowl coating, but it will be caked over in a day or two.

It's absolutely perfect otherwise.

Oh man that's a looker! Thanks for sharing it.

I don't think there's a BW or Moonshine thread. Seems like a good as time as any to start one!

I ended up with a standard bent stem, a Shillelagh blue stem, a Hyperbole smooth bowl, a Dover rustic, and a Plymouth hunter, all from tobaccopipes.com. Not shown: a tin of Cringle Flake 2023, and July Compare and Share.

I've been on an estate tear lately!

A Kaywoodie Lady Briar and a KBB Yello-Boll THORN at an antique shop this weekend. Both unsmoked! $9 each.

It looks like your Kaywoodie Lady is missing several of its rhinestones (as is common with these pipes). It seems impossible to find modern day replacement rhinestones with full faceted backs; I had to settle for flat backed ones and in some cases stack two to match the depth. I don’t know what colours were used on yours, but I have a ton of red and clear if you need any. Just let me know.
