I've only had success with fold and stuff a couple of times. For me, fully rubbed out 95% of the time. Cube cut and gravity fill the other 5%. If it wasn't so time consuming I'd cube cut all the time, and I may actually just cube cut a whole batch and jar for future use. You get the easy burn of a rubbed out flake, but the slow burn of fold and stuff.

Well, you could try drying a few ounces at a time- then you'll be ready to light up with no wait at all!
Super dumb question - as a guy who smokes 1-2 times a week - would you just pull some out and let it sit until next time? coming from cigars I have a huge fear of going too dry, but I'm starting to get the feeling there's nearly no such thing as too dry with pipes.

Pipe tobacco can get too dry if it's left out to long. A lot depends on the tobacco you are using. Trial and error is part of the journey in finding what works for you. Some like it right out of the tin regardless of the moister level. Others, like to dry it some before smoking.

It's whatever you prefer and taste best to you.

I don’t smoke as often as many as well and “depends” can be a little vague but if it’s pretty wet I’ll leave it out overnight and if not, maybe an hour or so. I’m banned from the microwave. ;)

No, I don't leave it out for "the next time". As important as the initial level of moisture in the tobacco is your RH where you dry it. I used to live near Sacto, and suggest you dry two hours , then check. If ok, jar it up!

another thing I find that flakes tend to hold flavor when other blends lose it. If you dry it out to the point it snaps when bent you can break it in half so you have to half length pieces and then push those squares into the chamber. I swear to me it shocks me how much flavor it retains and how few matches you need. In fact I think I will smoke my dried out last flake of Bold Kentucky tonight.

I'm surprised youtube hasn't taken it down. They deleted a few of my videos because of tobacco use.
those are the videos where you say things like this one is good for the whole family mild enough even for a baby but refined enough for Grandpa to continue acting all snobby. They just don't approve of elder abuse in any form even mild teasing.

What makes it funny is that my videos are by link only. You can't find them in recommendation or by searching.

I'd let 4+ ounces dry to the point that you want and then jar it until you are ready to use it.
