I have to admit it actually hurts more than a little to use capitalization. On my cigar forum, I almost exclusively use lowercase, but with correct spelling and punctuation (or, truth be told, over punctuation) whenever humanly possible. I consider it a reflection of how I, in real life, behave: I drink a lot of coffee, and am usually working on at least four alternating things at once, so have a tendancy to talk at a brisk clip in a steady tone. Unless I am REALLY EXCITED! (hey, caffeine!)
However, I totally respect that the standard here is held as such. Fortunately English is a living and changing language, and I feel it is a freedom and a joy to "play" with it from time to time, but encouraging people to "use their words" is by and large a good thing, as is trying to sting together cogent ideas.. As long as slack is made for the novitiates and for basic human error, I have no problems with the policy.
As long as "y'all" is a valid form of address. As a Kentuckian, I have to draw the line somewhere. o)

Now that we have a Carter Hall reference from Bob I think this thread is complete.

Y'all is certainly a valid form of address....

But, I might recommend the plural form "All y'all" when addressing the Membership as a whole. :nana:

LOL! Come on brownie, lighten up! We don't need to be told how to post. I've never seen a lack of moderation on this board. 8O

This isn't an issue for me and have never understood why there needs to be rules about it. Is society so fast paced now that you can't write properly. I don't understand why people make posts like they are texting their friend. Heck, I use proper English when even texting.

Basic math skills went into steady decline beginning with electronic calculators. Spelling, grammar and vocabulary are on the way out now thanks to computers and text messaging.
An expanded vocabulary results in an expansion of consciousness...a reduced vocabulary, a contraction of consciousness.

I think the spill over from text/SMS lingo accounts for many of the poorly constructed posts. The upswing in use of mobile devices also adds to problems with spelling and punctuation; these darn touch screens don't always get the right touch and a misplaced space can really foul a sentence, not to even mention the spell checker learning to spell words wrongly because of mis-touches …

Working on mush prevention. I think it helps to learn something difficult every so often. Nonetheless I expect to be completely out of it in 20 or so years.

Uh, Lawrence, in this part of Tenn-0-see, we are more apt to say "you'un," rather than "all y'all."
And, I'd like to say, while we are doing a little housecleaning, as it were, I have changed my avatar to reflect more of my regional culture and heritage, and to honor one of my very best friends who took the photo about four years ago and died shortly thereafter. He was 42 and the best photographer I have ever had the good fortune to work with on a daily basis.

Down here in Alabama, the occasional You'uns slips out...

I thought you'un was singular.... "You'un him". Or, "you'uns over there", will work.

Dang! I lernt sumpin' t'day :D

Yep, you got me Lawrence. I left the "s" off of you'un. Plural is "you'uns," and singular, of course is "you'un."
Now if you have a high-falutin' education, the plural could be "you'aneae." Or something. I forget.
