That's the thing, partly... the same kind of tobacco can have wildly different tastes batch to batch or a different taste from manufacturer to manufacturer (depends how they further process it between casings and/or toppings, or if it's aged some first or even if it's put into a flake or cake as opposed to a ribbon cut), or even based on what else is in the blend.
There's generalities in flavor of different tobaccos... perique certainly can be peppery, but isn't necessarily peppery—perique can also be fruity (plummy). The opinions of others aren't worthless, but they aren't gospel either.
There's plenty of beloved blends that I absolutely hate... burley is by far the top dog for me and despite that, I hate the much-beloved Solani ABF, C&D Pegasus and Haunted Bookshop (OJK is awesome though and I love it). But... that's just me. However many people seem to be unable to differentiate between different kinds of "nutty" flavors, and they often can't tell much a difference between cocoa and chocolate flavor and can't tell a difference between anise/fennel and licorice (whereas for me and others, these are all distinctly different). Meanwhile, others can taste big differences in VAs and to me, they all mostly taste kind of the same (peppery or grassy/hay), while others think all burley just tastes like [non-descript] nutty and/or chocolate.
This is definitely something to bear in mind, along with everyone's tastes being different and that your own tastes can change.
Another good example is cilantro (or coriander leaves to those across the pond). To some, it tastes citrus-y while others think it tastes like soap. To me, when I was younger, cilantro did taste soapy, but over time my taste changed for me and now cilantro tastes citrus-y.
To the topic at hand, I have a tin of Crooner, the only blend I have with deertongue, but I haven't cracked it open yet. It may be the next one I open though when I'm ready to open another blend.
