I toss my tobacco in the air and try to catch it with the bowl. I found this give for a perfect gravity fill. I then light the bowl with a candle. Just be carful you don't let any wax drip into the bowl. I find its a pretty simple method and it smokes perfect every time. I think I usually only have to relight out 9 times throughout the course of the smoke.

Proper packing is overrated as a skill. Getting a good burn on the first light will solve most packing issues.

The sad thing is, a newbie could totally believe this and try it. While you have this in jest, the actual theory behind it isn't flawed, and in actuality, it's something we do, except we use the tactile feel of the tobacco in between our fingers and the resistance in the bowl to do what you describe. But for us it's just practice. By the way, I'm sure some scientist, in the long history of the pipe, probably did something similar to what you describe.

LoL... this is awesome, im not down with all the conversions and measuring etc... sounds like i would need to prep a science lab 3weeks in advance to pack my pipe..... lol..... Although i think i will try the new gravity fill by throwing my baccy in the air and catching it with the pipe, I love it... LOL....
Best thread so far!

Juni.....Juni.....you forgot to empty the whiskey from the bowl during the measuring process.
Well no wonder my pipes gurgle so much and all the tobacco float around in whiskey!

Terminology review
The phrase "pack" should be used for this type of pipe:
metalpipe2.jpg

This type of pipe, you "fill":

THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

I just tried this method with one of my pipes.
I'm currently on the phone with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as I believe I have just proven the existence of dark matter and zero point energy.

All of my tobacco goes through a filter of freshly cleaned breasts before it enters the pipe.
Really fluffs up the tobacco quite nicely.

re: gravity fill method: I seem to recall this fellow who was very good at catching things in his pipe from the air. I think he was a sailor.

I have found out that over time an almost scary sense of knowing

exactly how to pack a specific pipe with all sorts of bacci cuts and

methods/ changing based on my mood and how I pack can alter smoking

flavors.... I do this without thinking about it/and poof....pure bliss everytime

I pack a bowl :) so again as quoted before in this thread whatever

your system , if it works for you...you have the perfect system ;-)
