Thank you very much to you all! Most likely will go with the 302 spigot, I definitely like the looks of that the most! Will keep the other advice in the back of my mind for future. I have a feeling this "hobby" is going to get expensive! Or should I say lifestyle! puffy

Hit the “send” button too early. If you’re buying new from Smokingpipes.com order some of your “finalists” and see which feels best to your have. They are fine about taking returns. have the ones you mentioned. They all seem to smoke as long. The way I am smoking seems to be the variant. Don’t remember who said it, but I concur with getting moisture out of well. I have rehabbed a couple where this wasn’t done. It was all gunked up. The Sherlock Holmes Watson always seems to be a long smoke for me. Let’s see a picture of your new prize

I was going through some old threads, for no real reason🤪 and I noticed that I never did send a pic! So here's to Reviving an old thread lol! Here's a pic of the 302 system I picked up.

since then I picked up a Sherlock Holmes squire, 20220909_121812.jpgand I just recently acquired this beautiful system spigot 307, still in the break-in process, but it's a beautiful pipe!20220909_121726.jpg I really love my Peterson's and especially the p-lip! My next two I'm eyeballing is the Sherlock Holmes professor, and a deluxe b42, if I can ever find one!

I have no experience with the system pipes, but I do greatly enjoy the Peterson spigots. It makes maintenance easy, and it's a strong connection between stem and stummel. I also like the way it looks. I like the idea of combining the system plumbing and the spigot for easy access to clean the system chamber. If I get another bent pipe it will be a Peterson spigot because you can remove the stem right after a smoke, and run pipe cleaners through stem and stummel easily.

I’ve owned several Petersons over the years. I wouldn’t buy anything below the Deluxe-line. Below that, the quality is unfortunately not up to parr anymore. And I would recommend you go for a Peterson System variant (with p-lip), because that’s the Peterson trademark and they do know how to produce them well.

My System Deluxe is a 20s. It’s an excellent pipe.

love the spigot. Like the others a lot too. But there is just something about their spigots that I find beautiful. My system pipe is one of my favorite pipes. And I think the p lip is better then a fishtail. Not by enough to make a difference but if two nearly identical pipes are on offer I'll take the lip one.

I am in the market for my first new pipe and have narrowed it down to Petersons system standard or spigot, B42, 302 or 307. Unfortunately my local B&M doesn't carry Peterson so must order on-line, I'm wanting a decent size bowl for an hour long smoke but also a good clencher. From what I have read these three shapes should fit the bill. I really like the looks of the 302 but concerned it may not hold enough tobacco and B42 may be to large to clench comfortably so maybe the 307 is a good compromise? Also wondering if the extra expense of the spigot is worth it? Your help in this will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
B42 will give you the longest smoke of the choices you provided. Though if I'd give my reccomendation it would be a PUB pipe if you're looking for a long smoke! But thats just my opinion.

This is your answer: the pub pipe. Amazing clencher. I smoke one every day I fill it half way most days. Put in the amount of tobacco you want to smoke.
Don't know why the pub pipe hasn't been on my radar but it definitely is now! I'm going to have to add that to the list the main reason for the b42 in the deluxe system other than size is I really like the look of the stem compared to the other deluxes! I mostly shop smokingpipes.com because they've just been a great shop never had any issues with them and I like the fact that they take individual pictures of each pipe but I don't know if I've ever seen the b42 deluxe on their site, it almost makes me wonder if Peterson is even making that many?!

I also have a Peterson 302 System, I really do like the pipe, it is a great smoker, no complaints at all.
The spigot pipes are classy in appearance, I wouldn't mind owning one someday, but I already own four or five pipes already, that should be enough for any man. :)

Systems are cool and OP found some great pipes! OP, don’t sleep on a No. 68 shape and at the moment I’m remembering why I love my spigot XL02 CP - feels great in hand and I’ve clenched the heck out of it while driving and, like now, when typing and not a mark on it - it’s a workhorse with a nice chamber! Not system, but nice BEE9C1A5-2CD1-4A2B-8DEC-CF4D2FAAF54C.jpeg

Smokingpipes is great. And they are owned by the same company that owns Peterson: Laudisi Industries.

Bought my first Peterson's about 45 years ago. Have had other brands along the way but now have over 90 different Peterson's, mostly System pipes along with several Sherlock Holmes. Could say that I'm biased but I don't care. They have worked for me over the decades. Decide what you like and go for it...

Just pulled the plug and ordered the system standard 302 heritage, figured I would save the extra expense for the spigot on tobacco!puffy Will update with pic's and first impressions next week!
That was my first Peterson. Love it. P-lip well and all. I frequently wash it out completely in the kitchen sink. Does quite well. Good choice! I added a rubber bit on the end. It does help with clenching. I like clenching the p-lip

Yeah that 302 is a great smoking pipe! It seems no matter what blend I put through it... it just smokes wonderfully, feels great in the hand, is a great clincher and it seems to never get hot! Can't say enough great things about this little pipe! puffy

Love my 314 system standard sandblast! When I first got it I had to learn to slow down more with it as it likes to smoke a little wetter than the rest of my pipes. I think if it had the condensor it would smoke drier as the draught hole is right inline with the end of the stem and tends to get moisture on it. I've since figured it out and tend to smoke more english blends with it as they are drier.20220716_093513.jpg

Back in the eighties my local tobacco shop had a basket of Erica seconds ... I picked out two (wish I'd grabbed more but I was a kid) which I now know are seconds of the House pipe (22mmx50mmchamber) and the 302 (17mmx35mmchamber) but the stem are not p-lips but fishtail but with a single hole at end not a slit. They are great pipes and still look new. The 302 had some fills on the back side. I only just discovered the house pipe had one fill inside the bowl at the rim. I've never had or smoked a Peterson deluxe but I can't imagine they would be any different. Great pipes;last almost forever.

Hey Masterblaster, sending you a welcome from down here in Australia. I'm a relatively new pipe smoker and one of the first pipes I bought was a Peterson system standard 302. It is a beautifully shaped pipe and I still have it as pride of place among my other pipe acquisitions. Good luck with getting yours and let us know in these forums how you go with your purchase. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts once you have your new pipe. All the best.
