I often do a side by side comparison of a fresh tin of something and an aged jar of a couple years. Personally I always prefer the fresh, whether virginia or oriental. Perhaps lat blends do improve though.

This thread caused me to open a tin of 5 yr old embarcadero. Smoking it now and the oriental is hard to find right out of the tin - the tin note is amazing though. If I remember I'll report back after letting it breath for a couple of days.

Yes, try it over time and take note. Everyone has a different perception of good taste.

Opened a mylar bag of 2004 Raven’s Wing the other day. Doesn’t seem nearly as full as it was when new, but it is immeasurably smooth…

What is the best way to preserve it until it all gets smoked? At the moment I’ve got it in 2oz jars, would mylar be better?

A tin never lasts me more than a week. Tobacco 20+ years old can fade significantly over a few days.

Great thread and saved me from asking, i have quite a few bowed tins from 2003-2007 and was going to ask this very same question. It pays to read first and ask later.

How old are we talking? Like a few years or 20+. Ain't no way I would let a 20-30 year old tobacco air for a few weeks or even a month. Maybe one that 5-20. But, when you start getting into 25,30-40 years old... I'd just smoke it. There's no formula for something that becomes that reactive to air.
