2023(?) Dan Black Velvet. This has historically been one of my favorite "aromatic" blends, but late last year I caught Covid and it fucked with my taste. At that time, I had one of these open and tried smoking it but the sensory shift made both the scent and flavor strike me as absolutely wretched. I've given it some time and upon revisit, it's safely nestled once more in my aromatic upper echelon.

Note: I put aromatic in quotes because while it's technically the case, it's because this blend is aged in a dark stout and champagne, so it's a far cry from the usual process of aromatizing.

GLP Regents Flake tinned on June 22, 2023. I do like the fact that the date label is straightforward rather than an indecipherable set of numbers you need an enigma machine to decode.

The tobacco was very moist, which might account for the blob of mold at 12 o'clock. Luckily, the rest of the tin seemed fine but I do worry about the other tins I bought in the same order.

According to the description, Regents Flake contains "mature red and sweet bright virginias" Izmur leaf and a touch of perique. I must confess, I can hardly taste the Oriental component except perhaps as a touch of sourness. But the Virginias are sweet, malty and mellow. A reliably pleasant easy smoke.

The flakes are fairly thick and barely hang together, which makes them near-impossible to fold and stuff. They do rub out easily and dry fairly quickly.

I'd send these pictures to where you bought this from, they should send you another tin.

It happens and far too often with products batched by C & D but it looks like early intervention on that tin may have saved the day. I, like yourself do worry about my rather deep cellar of C & D/Pease blends and it would be a bitter pill to swallow if one cellars for 10/15 years only to discover a ruined product.

Just opened this Dreams of Kadath. Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that tin note! Very interesting smoke and has reminded me just how new I am at this hobby and how many flavours there still are for me to uncover.

Dude I tried Dreams of Kadath right when I first started smoking a pipe and found it to be a casserole of absolute nonsense. This almost makes me want to try it again.

“casserole of nonsense” is rather descriptive and not inaccurate. it’s packed with flavor, that’s for sure. to me it’s like blueberry-grape over stout cigar-burley earth tones with a nic-hit that will make you question your manhood. it took me a year to smoke through a tin. other than that, it’s fabulous.
