I know this seems odd, and it's even more intense during leap years, but when I pack a bowl and smoke it, the left side of the bowl, left from the perspective of the smoker, tastes different from the right side of the bowl. This is particularly noticeable in stack shapes. It's like I have two distinct blends, side by side, smoldering away. My question is, why is this more intense during leap years?
The mountain air seems to be agreeing with you. As for your question, pack your bowl from top to bottom instead of bottom to top and everything will be fine.

The answer is obvious. You smoke with the pipe in the left side of your mouth whereas the left portion of the bit is against the thicker back portion of the tongue with less taste buds and less flow. Duh!

As for leap year, this is also obvious. The tobacco is aged a full 24 hours longer!!

And some wondered what you would be doing with the additional spare time in your retirement...
Now we know.
