My parents completely understand why I made the choice to not have kids. My brother and sister were two of those that said I'd regret it.
All three of us are adopted, so in essence our bloodline starts or stops with us. Years ago my sister bought the whole family ancestry kits from "23 And Me". I really didn't care so I postponed the test until 2023. My siblings both found birth family members, my sister found her birth mother and a couple half siblings. I'm not sure what my brother found, he's a quiet guy. None of that sounded good to me, I already have parents and a family. When I eventually did the test I found a couple cousins but haven't contacted them. I did find that both sides of my birth parents families came from WV and were coal miners for generations.
But the best part was that I found out I was more Scandinavian than my dad, that's a huge issue in my family.
For decades my dad was pure Swedish. He was the chief of the local Vikings club for decades. He has Swedish knick knacks and pictures and posters and signs.....
Our last name is very Swedish. He has made and given away Dala horses for years, he loves and bakes Limpa Rye bread and pickles his own fish.
Well, his test shows he's 75% Irish and only 15% Swedish. :)
I'm 54% Italian and 43% Scandinavian, most likely Norwegian.
We all thought this was hilarious.
My Great Grandparents on my father's side came from Sweden. My brother was big into being a Viking, but I believe we have mostly Irish/English blood.

In addition to your paternal branch, there’s a ton of Northman DNA “injected” into the midieval gene pool of all the British isles.

Plus, as I’ve heard from many historians “Viking” is a job description, not a race😉

Speaking of hats, I have noticed many more flat caps out in the wild of late. Are they coming back into fashion or is it that I am just noticing them more since adopting them for near daily wear? I wonder that since I cannot be seen as being "in fashion". That cannot be. I will be forced to seek out a bowler to wear if flat caps come back into vogue.

I’m all about my alone time on my back porch. But I don’t mind an intrusion or two now and then. I actually quite like it when my wife comes out for a chat every so often. Our conversation tends to be better as I’m listening more and thinking more before I speak because of the ritual of the pipe and the concomitant distraction of it.

My kids can be pains in the ass. They are all late teenage boys and they are animals. They have all had issues of one kind or another over the years, but every time I’ve thought about what life would have been like without them it’s always worse than the one have WITH them. There are certain types of pure, unadulterated joy that you can get only by being a parent. One of them is that my youngest is probably my best friend, aside from my wife of course. He’s also the best hiking partner I’ve ever had. So there’s that.

Vikings were an identity, not an ethnicity or a race. Originally from Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as they grew their range, they had settlements all over from Russia, Iceland to England, Canada and Ireland. Many native Brits, Russians and others began identifying as Vikings.
So, just because someone is Scandinavian doesn't mean their family was ever considered a Viking.
Because word of mouth is usually very inaccurate, the best way to find out is a DNA test. Your DNA can be directly linked to known Viking burial sites.
While looking into these DNA tests I found that over 90% of Western people are wrong about their decent.
Back around year 100, people started moving around a lot. So a family may have lived in an area for centuries, but their ancestors are from somewhere else.
That's what happened to my dad. As far back as he could track his family which was 100s of years, they all lived in Sweden. But his actual ancestors were mostly Irish. The vast majority of people in Sweden, are in 90%+ Swedish. My dad being only 15% is in the bottom 1%. :)

After a short time without smoking due to health issues, plus a week of work painting parts of the house. I am back to smoking in my pipes, with my favorite tobaccos, in peace, relax, without distractions. As I have already said in other occasions, I only smoke in my smoking room, and in the golf club, the only areas where I can smoke quietly, without being disturbed by curious people, who see you as if you were someone who wants to get people's attention. I could never smoke, without a moment of peace.
