I feel ya. I go out to the garage in the evenings to smoke, and I swear the damn garage door flies open 15 times while I’m out there. The wife needs something, the kids need something, the kids are fighting and tattling, etc. I often wish I could be left alone for just a few minutes! Haha. Oh well, I’m told I’ll miss this when it’s over. I’m skeptical… 😜

So true! My kids are out of college and moved away just a few years ago. The peace and quiet is nice but I miss everything you describe. I see my son a couple times a month for an activity we both love (he’s 4 hours away so we meet in the middle), but my daughter is 1000 miles away. You spend 18 years begging for a moment’s peace and then the silence is deafening. Enjoy the chaos (and the pipes) while it lasts!

When my Kids were younger, my days off were actually my ex's days off(We were together at the time). So I started doing a thing. The night before I would pack my car with cigars or my shorts and sandals (depending on what I wanted to do). The next morning I would take my kids to school and after I dropped them off I would call in sick and hit the cigar lounge all day or the beach all day. Sure, I could have easily told my ex but trust me, "something" would've came up. Hahaha!

Number 6,751 why I don't have kids.
All through my 30s and 40s I was told I would regret not having kids. Ive been told it's the greatest joy one can experience. Well, I'll be 54 tomorrow and I'm still good. :)
I do a lot during the day, and sometimes at night. I find at least one time a day to smoke a pipe. I quit piping for 7ish years due to being busy, but I won't do that again.
If I'm outside mowing, or doing most things, my wife may come with the phone, or a message, or an errand....but if I'm smoking my pipe, she just waits until I'm done. This was her idea for me to restart piping.
I also take time multiple times a day to come here for 10 minutes or so.....also her idea. Sometimes I have trouble slowing down. Ya'll would be surprised where I am or what I'm doing while being on this site sometimes. :)

When my dad was living, he told me that he hoped I never regretted not having kids because they can be a comfort to you in your old age. I said "Yes, that can be true, and they can also be an eternal pain in the ass." You can't argue with good reasoning.

My parents completely understand why I made the choice to not have kids. My brother and sister were two of those that said I'd regret it.
All three of us are adopted, so in essence our bloodline starts or stops with us. Years ago my sister bought the whole family ancestry kits from "23 And Me". I really didn't care so I postponed the test until 2023. My siblings both found birth family members, my sister found her birth mother and a couple half siblings. I'm not sure what my brother found, he's a quiet guy. None of that sounded good to me, I already have parents and a family. When I eventually did the test I found a couple cousins but haven't contacted them. I did find that both sides of my birth parents families came from WV and were coal miners for generations.
But the best part was that I found out I was more Scandinavian than my dad, that's a huge issue in my family.
For decades my dad was pure Swedish. He was the chief of the local Vikings club for decades. He has Swedish knick knacks and pictures and posters and signs.....
Our last name is very Swedish. He has made and given away Dala horses for years, he loves and bakes Limpa Rye bread and pickles his own fish.
Well, his test shows he's 75% Irish and only 15% Swedish. :)
I'm 54% Italian and 43% Scandinavian, most likely Norwegian.
We all thought this was hilarious.

I don't get too wrapped up in family history and culture. Who did the horizontal bop with who way back when is just irrelevant to me. I will likely lead a solitary life in retirement and I think I'm fine with that. I don't have friends outside of work and have minimal contact with family. I'll probably end up being found all soaked into my recliner with a youtube video on repeat. :ROFLMAO:

You will because there is this thing we all do. Once something is gone we mostly remember the good parts. I saw it happen with the 80's. Yeah you got fun bands and movies and even though people gave a shit about what you did it was a lot harder for them to tell you about it.... But do you really want to have in the back of your mind that the Russians have how many warheads pointed at us and all it might take is some unknown general deciding that the best way to deal with his wives nagging is to wipe out all life on the east coast. I've had people say oh we really didn't think about that, when I know they lost sleep over it more often then they will ever remember.
So yeah you'll miss it but only cause you don't have to deal with the b.s. anymore.
