Sorry this reply took so long, but I have been going through a lot of computer tsouris lately. Time to say Thank You! to pipesmokingtom, who sent me a pouch of that Sambuca licorice bombs. I have to say, coming from the world of cigars, that ain't much. 'Fact, I'd ordered some Five Vegas A's, Maduro wrapped, after having gotten used to the world of pipes again...and they're too strong! I can't even deal with them, and unlike pipes, once you've over-smoked part of one stick, you've ruined the entire thing. So really, I was looking forward to the Sambuca.
I ended up trying one bowl straight and was pleasantly surprised. Could it have been the same tobacco? Mine was light, sweetly balanced, and smooth. I blended it, one after another and in some combinations, with Latakia, stoved Virginia, East Carolina Ribbon, and some Perique; it did so well, and provided such a healthy base, that I mixed it with the remainder of my own codger blend. What an incredible difference! It took what was a meh sort of cherry-heavy blend with other flavors, such as bourbon, mixed in, and made it darker and more pungent, a little on the good side of musty, and reminiscent of good garden loam in the nose. Thank you, Tom, for sending that along!
Does anyone else here smoke cigars as well?

@unclescot - yeah. Cigars are great. I most often want a pipe, but when the urge strikes for a cigar, only a good cigar satisfies. I smoke cigars socially, and sometimes at home, and a pipe in the car/fishing/at home. I think most folks here enjoy quality tobacco in more than 1 form. What cigars do you like?

@mackeson -- I'm not well-versed on cigars, either, most of them being out of my financial reach. But I have a fondness for La Aurora, because every one of their lines has this warm, honeylike taste and aroma. Even their little foil-wrapped ready-to-smoke ones, which I should get another box of: unimpressively mild, sweet, and you don't need a cutter to smoke them. (Whatever happened to Dutch Masters and White Owl?) I like maduro wrappers, though, for their robust tones of espresso and cocoa. 5 Vegas never fails to satisfy, especially their 'A' line. Very nice, sturdy smoke, no tunneling, even burning. I do like spicy ones, too. I think Patels were like that, if I remember right. Montecristos and Macanudos were excellent post-dinner smokes. FreeCuba/Cuba Libres? I think. Forgettable. Let's see...I remember a dark Graycliff that was intense like espresso and dark dried fruit until it hit The Smoke Of No Return and turned nasty on me. Man o' Wars, not enough experience with them; I tried Gurkhas but didn't like them because their flavor hit me as a muddle. Then again, most of the ones I tried were golf cigars, so what do I know?

Just opened my package, Jackson! Thanks so much for the generous gift! I've not tried any of these, and am excited to do so. Good man.

No way! Keep it going even if it's just the three or four of us throwing blends at each other across the country!

I'm all for it, but probably after the holidays. The postage has added up a little faster than I had anticipated.

Anyone want some Drew Estate Heirloom Cherry Jam? I have two tins. Can't say I like it because I don't. Can't remark to its value or quality, because I'm a newb. I would love for it to find a new home though with someone who'd enjoy it.

Sambuca? Anise flavored tobacco? That's got to ruin a pipe! I'd drink it, but I've no desire to smoke it.
