soylentgreen: I'm looking forward to trying some GLP Barbary Coast some day - it just never seems to find me. How would you rate it as a burley?
Too soon to say as that was my first bowl ever. Also, I'm new to pipe smoking so I can't say I have a taste for things yet. Warnings aside...
The other Burley-VA-Perique blend that I've tried is Haunted Bookshop. I much prefer Barbary Coast. Haunted Bookshop was a lot spicier, burned hotter and quicker. I think the Perique dominated. In fact, I'm not sure it tasted like anything else. Not pleasant at all. On the other hand, Barbary Coast was cooler, smoother, burned slower, and this newby could actually pick out Burley from Perique. The latter coming and going as the bowl went down. Much more relaxing and pleasant for me. Both are at my tolerance level for nicotine (I was never a cigarette smoker).
Just to give you an idea of my preferences... other things I do like include London Mixture, Prince Albert, 1Q, and GLP Telegraph Hill. Verdict is out on Trout Stream (starts great but the last third of bowl always tastes like ash to me which is all I can remember really after it's gone). That about completes my repertoire.
Hope that helped.
