Seems like many people fall prey to the "Lochte Syndrome". Lie about what you did and people will listen to you and believe you did not mean to lie, you were just confused about the facts. At least he has an excuse, he was drunk!!

bryg' has it right. All of Lochte's sponsors dropped him like a warm turd. Many millions right down the commode. Apparently a privileged spoiled permanent adolescent who will blame someone/anyone else for his troubles, and hire others to explain his mis-doings until the funds run out. Not everyone with a gift has a core or character. Someone, coach or family, might have pulled him up short years ago, but once the crowds start cheering and the rich folks start writing checks, it's difficult to keep a kid on track. The folks in Rio have plenty of troubles of their own without this affront. Most people develop some inner strength and spine by working scutty jobs and having some hard times, and mostly they don't end up competing in the Olympics, though a number of athletes have more than paid their dues.

Arrested Development! Great show. Along with some Wilder films, that'll be my choice for the next week. (Assuming I can get it on DIRECTV®, Netflix or Amazon for "free". )
And, yes, Lochte has the moral compass of a teenager, and not a very bright one.

the addition of Lochte doesn't surprise me.
Sadly I think a whole lot of people are looking forward to it. I'd bet on a nice ratings bump for the show. Sigh

I just can't think of a news story I could care less about, much less get angry over. Sometimes it seems codgers seek out reasons to be upset, outraged, or disappointed.

I just like to watch "stupid" in action. Watching a person self-destruct right before my eyes is always entertaining when watched from a distance and sometimes educational. Never anything to get upset about though.

He didn't lie, he "over-exaggerated".
:)
In all seriousness though, my biggest issue is that he has not admitted that he lied. But let's be honest-- lying to police in Brazil to cover up some drunken vandalism is not as serious, in my view, as driving while intoxicated, which Phelps did, and the public (rightly, in my view) forgave him when he admitted his wrongdoing and was contrite. Lochte is just another pampered athlete who did something stupid while under the influence.
I think he kind of accepted that.
"Like I said, I did lie about that one part," Lochte said of his claim that a gun was held to his head at a Rio gas station. "I take full responsibility. I'm human. I made a mistake. A very big mistake."
Phelps is just taking the advantage of pratfall effect I guess.

Welcome back, johnnyreb!
Thanks Hunter! I appreciate that!
As a codger, Nate, I just hope his 15 min of fame are over soon & that maybe he will have to get a real job. Just like I'm hoping the same for Colin Kaepernick & Johnny Manziel. I don't understand the Dancing With the Stars thing but I generally don't understand the whole Hollywood thing anyway.

When you feel you cannot fix what is actually wrong, you look for symbolic issues to sound off on, letting off some steam and then rationalizing that which you cannot fix.

Well stated Coma Carbon Composite!! I believe you've hit the head on the nail. It seems this is a common part of aging, but it seems once you're completely aware of this fact, it would cease and hold no power. . Anytime I catch myself making generational judgements, regardless of how accurate it might seem to be at the time, I remind myself that every generation feels this way in watching their time come and go, clinging for relevancy. It's just projecting my problems. The whole "yeah, but this is different" argument just doesn't hold water IMO.

The codger has learned throughout his life to be conservative. The kid who was raised with plenty, still wants to live & let live & hasn't figured out yet that he is the one who will be paying for his liberalism, not his parents.
