Can't drink gin - gives me an instant headache the minute the bottle is opened. But, I get my 89 year old step-dad a half gallon of Tanqueray every Christmas. He's a great guy and deserves what he enjoys.

My sister has recurring malaria attacks from missionary stints in Sierra Leone and Haiti. Drinking gin and tonic sounds like more fun.

I never destroy a great gin with any mixer of any sort. When I drink gin it is Bombay (original, not Saphire) on the rocks. Why anyone would mix anything with a premium Gin is beyond me. Besides, after the first one, it really doesn't matter. So, after the first one, go cheap and mix to your delight.

At the moment Bombay Sapphire is my favorite. I don't care for the original Seagram's, but their distillers reserve for a dollar or two more is pretty decent and is my go two when money is tight. Who doesn't want to drink something that tastes like scotch tape?

+1 for cucumber with Hendrick's. A good test for to see if your bartender is worth his salt is to order a hendrick's and tonic to see what his garnish will be; if it is a cucumber then you know you have a good one.

This thread has caused me GAD (Gin Aqquistion Disorder).

Tried Hendricks and absolutley loved it. They only had the extra large bottle in my local so I tried

Farmers gin. It is organic and uses some different.botanicals. Lemon grass, elder flower etc.

Tried a shot and it seemed to be a little high in alcohol, but mixed.with a touch of tonic it smoothed out nicely.

There's a lot of great small distillation happening around Denver. Haven't tried Leopold's offerings yet - not a big gin fan, but they do other spirits as well.

There is a time and a place for everything. Sitting at the lake, a$$ in a low-slung beach chair, toes in the sand, watching the sun approch the horizon with the sounds of kids splashing and playing in the distance. This is not the time or place for scotch. This is gin and tonic time. Lemon please. IMO

Bombay Sapphire martinis, anything else when you mix it. Bombay Sapphire doesn't smell or taste like "Gin" to me.

Had a friend that always ordered Absolute & OJ, or Absolute Bloody Mary's, waste of good vodka.

Has anyone tried Plymouth gin? There was an American version years ago that was OK, but the English Plymouth is a treat, especially in martinis. For gin & tonic I like Perry's Tot Navy gin, 114 proof. You can get a strong drink without diluting the tonic (Schweppes) too much. Of course now I don't drink anything stronger than a beer.

Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, or George Dickel are all good if you are in the mood for bourbon. Do they still make Dickel and is as good as it was? Did you hear about the time the J. Daniels distillery sprung a leak some years ago? The product ran into the nearby river & killed all the fish.

I did not hear that and I have no idea about Dickel. I just drink Jim Beam right now. I also like a variety of beers.
