Last night I bought some Leopold's Navy Strength American Gin and made the best gin and tonic I've ever had. I've also had their American Small Batch Whiskey and New York Apple Whiskey, both are excellent. These two brothers here in Denver are really making their mark. Highly recommended.

Mmmm pine trees.
I'd like to try that. I stick to Tanq 10 and Bombay Sapphire as of right now.

I love gin, my personal standbys are Beefeater and Bombay. Hendrichs is also excllent. But, these are all dry gins (tho hendrichs has many more aromatic components and is thus a bit sweeter).
Leopold's in on my list to try, thanks for the review!
Also, Tankeray is bringing back Malaqca - I think is how it's spelled - its a fantastic sweet orange gin they produced in the 90's.

I love good gin with latakia. Dry Bombay Sapphire martini is one of my favourite Cocktail accompaniments while smoking latakia heavy English tobaccos.

If you like Sapphire, then you should try Van Gogh Gin. It's a bit hard to find, but I have a local liquor store that will order it for me. It's worth the trouble!

Ramos Gin Fizz - best Flip known to man - especially if you use 7-up instead of soda water.

I never aquired a taste for a liquid that tastes the way shoe polish smells. They say its made from juniper berries which are gawd aweful. I cant imagine what was on the fella mind who decided one day. Hey, these berries are quite possibly the worst thing ever, but oh wait. I should make a drink out of them. If I turn them into a paint thinner type of substance that will get an Irish man drunk in minutes, people will love it.

Just had another to confirm Friday's tasting notes and yep, still tastes great. Have a couple racks of ribs in the smoker and lit up a bowl. Life is good.

I agree with ohin3, gin & tonic goes hand in hand with English blends. They are my go to summer after work indulgences!

I am a huge fan of Hendricks but I strongly recommend Blue Coat Gin (made in Philadelphia)and Fever Tree tonic. Fever Tree is hoard to find an a tad pricey but when mixed with a premium gin, Hendricks, Blue Coat, it is like discovering a brand new drink.

Enjoy

I bought a bottle yesterday, having missed it the last time it was available (2001). It's really something. The alcohol content is slightly less, coming in at 80 proof, and the drink itself seems less medicinal and "softer" than Tanqueray's standard London Dry offering. I'm a martini man, and the Malacca is quite nice with a little dry vermouth.
Get it while you can - this run was, apparently, only 100,000 bottles. Who knows if they're going to make more? It'll be the gin equivalent of Penzance!

Gin and tonic is my downfall, only at weddings, and when I'm intent on letting loose once or twice a year, and then I pay the next day big time.

Never heard of Van Gogh gin, but I will keep my eye out. I have been meaning to try a bottle of Hendricks and this thread may just put me behind the wheel of my truck and on my way to the liquor store for a bottle. I also agree that the tonic makes a HUGE difference in a good gin and tonic. I am hooked on fever tree. I find that schwepps and the likes are little more than soda water with sugar and a little quinine flavouring where as fever tree and other high quality tonics have a very pronounced almost medicinal quinine flavour that just does it for me.

The proper garnish for a Hendricks and Tonic is a cucumber slice but I stick with Beafeater or regular Bombay. Both great, solid gins that stand up equally well with tonic or dry vermouth.

+1 to Beefeater as the everday gin,
BUT, Hendricks is the way to go if you are consuming gin solo.
