EDWIN PIPES

Kris Edwin Barber made this churchwarden shape for me in his workshop in northeastern Minnesota, when he wasn’t clearing snow, dodging moose, or guiding kayak through the lakes. I found Kris to be straightforward and clear. He asks the right questions and goes to work. I do notice that his prices are climbing up but what? —this isn’t the nineteenth century anymore, is it? Just as much as I appreciate the engineering thought that went into my Peterson System B42, I appreciate the much more simple elemental artistry that Kris puts into making gorgeous smoking instruments.
I am still a learner of smoking pipes, and so I am finding that I must draw more gently with this churchwarden or I could get detritus coming down the relative straight stem. Nothing wrong with a reminder to go gently. This Edwin pipe is solid, tight, and excellent quality.

I didn’t see any mention of Skip Elliott at www.thebriary.com
I may be a bit partial as he’s local, and a super nice guy, but he makes GORGEOUS pipes. He doesn’t do custom orders, so his pipes are catch as catch can, and they sell extremely quickly. Again, can’t overstate how much of a stand up guy he is, too. Call to ask about his pipes, and spend an hour catching up like old friends. His B&M is in Homewood, AL in a real quaint little farmhouse. Stop by if you’re in the area!

I would like to add the late Frank Augsburger From Lombard Illinois, I have a freehand by him, it was a present from a American musician friend to me in the UK, it has a brass stamp on the bottom of the bowl "Natural World Hand Made Pipe" I will post a picture of this beautiful freehand when I get my Photo equipment out of storage. (have been slowly moving in with my late Wifes best friend and my new Fiancé) only just got my pipe collection moved, all still boxed but have about 20 for my rotation.

Surprised no one’s mention Kraig Seder from Sederkraft. Don’t have it in hand yet but he just made this beauty for me.
