Real time electrical activity mapping of human brains is a common diagnostic medical tool.

Hundreds of millions of people have pocket-sized gadgets that let them talk to each other instantaneously, no matter where on Earth they are.

Having a chameleon in a bottle, an animal tail, and bottles of "potion" in your possession will be legally considered attempted murder and get you sent to prison.

Many of which are highly technical jobs that require education, training, and certification(s) that require years of experience.

A good chunk of the population is involved in Making the Modern World and Keeping it Going.

This anti witchcraft law isn't a law against sorcerers. It's an "anti scam artist pretending to use tribal/sorcery beliefs to gain leverage over others" law.

Nice to have laws like that on the books when you're president and someone doesn't like you. I think a similar thing happened during the "sorcerer scare" of the McCarthy era.

Back in the 80s in Lagos, Nigeria, a thief grabbed something from someone on the street and ran. A crown followed him to an alley which turned out to be a dead end. They could not find the thief but there was a goat in the alley. Being intelligent and educated people they arrested the goat and accused him of being the thief and changing himself into the goat. Countries and their borders are a colonial imposition on Africa. But in parts of Africa, the cultures that inhabit it have a strong belief in witchcraft and its effects. More developed countries also have their established magical beliefs, but we're just used to them.
