I’m in the comfortable position of my smoking rate being much slower than my cellaring rate. Just by smoking what’s already open, moving in chronological order through my cellared tins and jars, and smoking a good portion of my rotation from fresh bulks and tins I have no interest in aging, I’m not really waiting on anything.

I've just started aging intentionally. I hope it doesn't come to naught. I like my Englishes and Aro's fresh but have never had an aged Virginia so I bought some to put some time on. I'll report back in 10 years.

Ren - sorry to hear of your loss. Your post is very well stated and a good reminder for us to stop sometimes and enjoy what we are working so diligently to stockpile. Best there, brother.
Thanks for the kind words. We buy tobacco to enjoy it. In the current anti-tobacco atmosphere it’s easy to get caught up in building a cellar and to forget why we’re doing it.

Agree with both sides of the story, cellar what you think you should while smoking what you want. I've taken the advice presented here and have been smoking my McClellands and Esotericas without regards for the future. Enjoy it now and hopefully your cellar will reward you later, just be sure to collect what you like.

I enjoyed the OP's comments. My wife bought me a small book entitled "The Present". It is all about enjoying the present moment because it is all we have. We aren't guaranteed the next blink of an eye. So brothers and sisters enjoy every, bowl, every breathe of wind on your face, the sound of laughter and the presence of loved ones.
The wonders of life all around us.

I suppose your thoughts towards hoarding depends on whether you are an optimist or pessimist. Such unknowns as length of life, legal status of tobacco, general health all enter into the equation.
In that light, I might say that my cellar is half full!

I'm going to take the other side of the fence. Keeping a few cans off limits makes them much more special when you choose break the seal. If it's all the same, there's nothing unique about the experience.

I smoke anything that is in my cellar except one tin(old Three Nuns). The only tins I buy now have significant age as most of my cellar was bought in 2012-2013. I cellared as much as I did because I like the flavors of aged tobacco and I wanted to be sure I always had my favorites around.

One day the shit will hit the fan and people are going to have a tough time getting any tobacco never mind their favorites.

Double bowling it. A pipe full of great tobacco and a ripping good dump enjoyed in a leisurely fashion. Careful not to drop your lighter, tamp, or pipe.

Walking with a pipe is called lunting. There needs to be a word for the above activity.
When I smoked cigs I couldn't have a dump without one.

Since switching to a pipe, I just couldn't. One just flushes a cig butt. Can't do that with a pipe : )

Truer words have never been spoken.
There are very few experiences, if any, that are not enhanced in the sharing.

Except when you offer your friend a bowl of Penzance and you see the smile on his face and his eyes light up with anticipation! The you pull out the jar, screw off the lid and hold it towards him as he leans in with delight. Then you pull it back quickly and twist the lid on and say “Smoke the 1Q” and you giggle with glee.

Yeah, that beats sharing!

Just kidding -I’d never be that big of an ass.

Heck, I'd do it! (And then give him some Penzance after he's been frustrated, LOL. The expression is priceless!) :ROFLMAO:
