I see so many pics of guys pipes that are really full of cake, I smoke everyday but I don't have any build up in my pipes. Do I need the cake? am I missing something
I smoke flakes and plugs exclusively and in my expedience cake forms quickly and it insulates my pipe very nicely.
Just curious, and only asking.....You NEED the cake!
Well no. Probably not. But I DO.
I don't wipe the bowl out ever. She just keeps growing and growing.
Isn't she beautiful???

Hahaha yes eventually the cake starts to chip away, and I ream it. I've reamed this one 5 ish times this year, at this level of cake.Just curious, and only asking.....
At some point, your pipe will hold only half a load of tobacco compared to when it was new. Will you address the cake build-up at that point?

I've started growing a cake in a couple older cobs just for experimentation purposes, to see how it effects flavour, moisture, and if it actually cracks cobs.I think I'll start doing this with my CH pipe. I've always wiped them out, but it'll be interesting to see the effect of cake.
I have cracked many a cob with my cake. Then fill with wood putty and smoke.I've started growing a cake in a couple older cobs just for experimentation purposes, to see how it effects flavour, moisture, and if it actually cracks cobs.
I've had cobs start to crack around the shank level after smoking frequently without cake buildup, and from forgetting them outside in the rain.I have cracked many a cob with my cake. Then fill with wood putty and smoke.
