I'm a nic whimp as well, always have been. When I smoked cigars in my 20's with my father and brother I'd be laid out after with a headache and nausea for a few hours and they were fine. I'm only a few months into serious pipe smoking trying all kinds of blends. A few, like Anthology, gave me the spins due to smoking to fast. With HH Bold Kentucky I was only able to smoke half a small bowl when I knew I had to set it down and walk away while I could. I've found that with some blends it's pacing and others it's just not ment to be.

I had the same issue with cigars. When I lived in Costa Rica, my dad, brother, and I smoked some rather large cigars and all went green about the same time. We did not make that mistake again. We were sick for most of the day.

I have yet to try HH Bold Kentucky. There are certain blends (like the latter) that seem to have a fair bit of warning to them. War Horse Bar and Ten Russians stick out in my mind as ones I have regularly read tales of woe about for the tobacco neophyte.

Haven't really ran into one of those. HH Rustica put me down once but that was only because I smoked four flakes at once. Usually if I'm wanting nicotine when smoking a pipe I have to have chewing tobacco or dip in my mouth while smoking.
Second the Rustica, also Gawith Hoggarth dark flake unscented , I have some Irish Twist on the way I’m sure it will be the same 1 flake at a time and I need to be sitting down with a bed near by

The bold Kentucky has great flavor and the Nic hit is definitely formidable but unlike some blacker UK flakes I’ve never gotten woozy or suffered palpitations which is a new one for me having ingested nicotine more than half my life ,definitely get some smoke in a small bowl till you feel it out , nothing like it

Coming from a cigar background I never have experienced N sickness. Used to smoke 3 - 4 strong cigars back to back on a empty stomach playing golf for 5-6 hours on the weekends. When I'm dragging in the morning I'll load up some HH Bold Kentucky, War Horse red, War Horse Green, S.G. XX Black, ect.. I prefer a strong blend in the morning to get going and something smoother at night. Never have been a breakfast person. Only kind of tobacco sickness I can ever think of was at 12 years old trying some Redman dip and not spitting. 🤢

Keeping hydrated with water is a plus, that’s for sure.

Activated Charcoal has provided me with the fastest relief, an hour or less, even when my chest is very uncomfortable and bad palpitations from the nic, they subside very quickly. So I always make sure I have a bottle of the stuff. Great also for cleaning out a crappy system, or when you’re feeling like major crap too.

But it’s my understanding it can leech the body of essentials like vitamins/minerals, so I only use when I really need it.

Have you ever tried honey after over-doing it with nicotine? Found it worked wonders.

I find the Gawith ropes to be among the strongest tobacco I've smoked. Problem is, as a regular user of nasal snuff, I've got a pretty decent tolerance, so although they're strong for pipe tobacco, they're not strong to me in the grand scheme of things.

I use Organic Raw Unfiltered Honey for a few seasonal allergies I get once an a while, and I have a wee bit of Asthma, that might act up on a rare occasion, I use the honey for, but never tried it for Nic.

Title hugely changed to add specificity and remove jargon.-jpm

As I was responding to a thread started by @hoosierpipeguy about the philosophy of cellaring tobacco, I found that my fingers did not quite work as expected. There were more typos than normal and I found my perception of all things to be a rather...off. I then felt like the world was spinning faster than I liked and it hit me...I just smoked myself wonky. The vitamin K crept up and gave me a sudden medulla slap (any martial arts or fight practitioners will know all about that). I realize I have not been smoking a pipe for long, but most blends do not have much of an effect on me other than to maybe make me a bit tired before bed. Only once had I experienced some wobble to my legs, but that was after a rather long/large bowl of something.

The culprit tonight (and one that I will be certain to respect a tad more): C&D's Sansepolcro. I am thinking it was the cigar leaf.

I do have a question for the group here: Which is your tummy tingler blend? Your Shrek? Your "ohhhhh...I made a horrible mistake...I should have stopped a ways back"?
After 35 years of smoking 30-40 cigarettes a day I switched to a pipe. Ever since I was a kid I smoked full strength cigarettes and I often inhaled large cigars.
Nicotine was not ever a problem.

The choice of pipe tobacco is really limited here in Australia so when I found that I could order tobacco from the U.S. I was like a kid in a lolly shop.
The choice was so wide that I was a bit lost until I found www.tobaccoreviews.com and learnt to rely on JimInks reviews to help me choose what to order.

Jim includes a fairly accurate assessment of nicotine in most of his reviews.
Since I switched to a pipe to rid myself of my addiction to cigarettes, I ordered blends with no more than mild nicotine.
I've been smoking them for so long now, that when I had a bowl of a mates blend that had no more than mild to medium nicotine, I really noticed it after just a few puffs [yes I inhale]
It made my head spin but not in a good way.

Although I don't think that nicotine is as bad as we've been led to believe [it's the chemicals that are added to cigarettes that are a big problem] , now that I no longer crave a smoke [more like a hankering puffy] I'm not willing to risk it by smoking stronger blends.
There's a huge range of mild blends that I really enjoy so I'm content.

My first experience with nic sickness was Kodiak chewing tobacco. i could chew redman all day long, but Kodiak always made my head spin and and afternoon of nausea.

I didn't much care for chewing after that lol I just stick to pipes and cigars.
Yeah, I lost interest after getting a bunch of mouth sores from chewing. When I lived in Norway, I would get redman from Sweden and all those snus-loving Norwegians looked at me like I was crazy spitting into a mug. Eventually, even they were concerned about my mouth because of how much it was affecting me. I was young and wanted to do the cool ”American” thing, but health and logic finally won out. I would not go back to chewing now or anytime.

It works and works well. Years ago, I helped a friend in film school write and produce a small art film. Long story short, he insisted on chain smoking cigarettes throughout, which was exacerbated when we had to re-shoot scenes. He got green in the gills a few times and a tablespoon of honey brought him back down to earth every time within a couple minutes. Worth a shot for you because if it works for you, you're looking at a couple minutes until relief, vs. an hour for the activated charcoal.

I am intrigued about the charcoal, however. I don't get the nicotine spins, but seems like a good thing to have on hand for minor poisonings. A nurse practitioner friend recommends it for the odd food poisoning case.
