Oilers goaltending was not good enough, nor was their D. Will the best player in hockey (McDavid) ever hoist the Cup? I think they'll be some big changes in Edmonton, maybe even say goodbye to their coach (who resembles Beaver Cleaver).

An ESPN "expert" criticized Coach "Beaver" Woodcrofts decision to start Skinner. He said it was a huge mistake and reason for the loss. Goaltending has been a problem for all the teams this year. I thought Grubauer was the hot Goalie in this years playoffs but that proved to be wrong.

Personally, I am not a fan of LV at all and would love to see any team beat them. But my money is on Vegas. I'd still like to see Kracken vs Panthers though.

Another big game tonight, sure hoping Krackers can win.

If your money truly is on Vegas, I bet the book is giving you a much better payout than you’re currently giving yourself.

Vegas Baby!!!
It was a back and forth series for sure, but the decision to start Skinner was an odd one for me.

Tim, enjoy the rest of the playoffs and all the accompanying highs and lows
I think the Oilers coach is in the hot seat.

He has the two best players in modern hockey and didn’t use them wisely.

He started Skinner AFTER pulling him three times. I haven’t heard one person defend that.

Also, the Oilers had last change and they deliberately avoided being on the ice with William Karlsson, good for Wild Bill, but that exposed them to Vegas’ other high end players.

As crazy as it sounds, the ultimate goal is only half over. It takes 16 wins, we currently have 8.

My city is pretty much a suburb of Edmonton, up until last night almost half the cars driving around had multiple Oilers flags, most businesses and gas stations had their signs changed to Oilers support messages, the schools had jersey days and the Kindergarteners made Oilers crafts.

The coach should seriously consider wearing a disguise and leaving town ASAP.

I missed the opening face-off. I thought I heard one of those "experts" say Oilheads Coach Beaver started his 4th line for the puck drop. And GK's scored in seconds ! I'll have to look that up. If true, wtf was he thinking?

That's a good sign - loyal fans.. that's a rarity. In Philly they blow up the city whether they win OR lose.

I haven't watched regular season hockey since I was a kid in my PJs staying up late on a Saturday night to watch Hockey Night in Canada. But I still enjoy watching the playoffs. The overall caliber of the players is higher than I remember and no doubt the superstars are every bit as good as the great ones of the past. (But maybe not the Great One.) The only players that as a group seem less impressive are the goaltenders. I'm sure I must be mistaken in this. With the better training and bigger talent pool nowadays, they can't be the only players that haven't improved. I know there are still some outstanding goalies in the league but I didn't see any championship net-minding in this round. Who are the goalies I should keep an eye on?

Goalies have improved significantly since I was a kid (1990s). Sure, there were outstanding ones back then (Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy, Ed Belfour etc.), but I can recall numerous games that ended in scores like 8-6, 9-5, and even many double-digit tallies. Hockey has become so much faster and more coordinated in the last 30 years, and while the goalies may not have improved quite to the level that the position players have, they have by and large done a respectable job keeping pace. At least that's my observation.

Refereeing has, predictably, not changed one bit, even with the addition of more linesmen. It's still as awful as it was back then! :ROFLMAO:

And goalie equipment was made smaller in 2006, I had forgotten that rule change.

2005-06The NHL adopted a comprehensive package of rule changes that included the following: Goal line moved to 11 feet from end boards; blue lines moved to 75 feet from end boards, reducing neutral zone from 54 feet to 50 feet. Center red line eliminated for two-line passes. "Tag-up" off-side rule reinstituted. Goaltender not permitted to play the puck outside a designated trapezoid-shaped area behind the net. A team that ices the puck is not permitted to make any player substitutions prior to the ensuing faceoff. A player who instigates a fight in the final five minutes of regulation time or at any time of overtime to receive a minor, a major, a misconduct and an automatic one-game suspension. The size of goaltender equipment reduced. If a game remains tied after five minutes of overtime, winner determined by shootout.

Growing up in NC, the only reason I’m not a Canes fan is because I was a Red Wings fan for a long time before the boys moved down from Hartford. Since my Wings have been consistently shitting the bed since they were last relevant, I’d like to see the cup come back to Raleigh. Hopefully they aren’t sleeping on Florida at this point in the tournament.
