In your twenties, you start out at 9 p.m. on New Years Eve to go to a party that precedes the party your really want to attend, that ends up at another party that somehow ends up having breakfast with a bunch of people you just met.

In your thirties, you and your significant other attend a party that is given by someone who is supposed to benefit one of your careers at a house that looks like someone inherited a lot of money, and the evening ends with you and your domestic partner leaving soon after midnight to go dance at a road house and have the best drink of the evening, two draft beers.

In your forties you have a lively evening at home with the kids and get them to bed just in time for a glass of Champagne and hearing the fireworks a mile or two away.

In your fifties, you spend the night at home watching a movie and having the whole bottle of Champagne to yourselves.

In your sixties, you walk the dog, eat delivered Chinese, watch the Times Square ball drop on TV, have a glass of Champagne, and hit the rack.

In your seventies, you read a book, walk the dog, dance a two-step with you honey to your smart speaker, sip Champagne out of the same glass, and call it a night.

In your eighties, you do whatever you damn well please, and stay up all night or hit the rack at eight, and don't change your calendars until two days after New Years Day.

What are your plans for New Years Eve and New Years Day?

I’m only halfway through the list, but so far, it’s got me dead to rights.

Kids will be asleep by 7:30 and we’ll have a drink and cross our fingers that the neighbours fireworks don’t wake them.

Nothing special. If I was real motivated I might load a blank charge in my black powder pistol and cap it at midnight. We're outside of city limits so Im fairly sure its not illegal (ish). BUT that dont matter because Im not that motivated. Ill likely watch a movie or something with my wife and hit the sack by 11

I'm 45 but my daughter is 10 months old. All I want is a nap. ?

We'll probably have our Champagne around 9:00 PM and then go to bed. ?

It's rare that I'm up until midnight anymore but to be honest it's the hangovers I fear more than lack of sleep these days.

In my teens and twenties New Years Eve was either all night sex, party hopping till dawn, or a mixture of the two, booze, etc.

In my thirties it was a occasionally whoopie, occasionally a party or two, a glass of champagne, generally home by 2 AM, and occasionally home after breakfast.

In my forties it was with friends over to the house because we stayed home with the little tax deduction, slightly better quality champagne.

In my fifties it was the occasional party, but mostly staying home either reading, watching something on the boob tube or working on a project

In my sixties it's been mostly home with my significant other, or just home, reading, watching the boob tube, or working on a personal project and more recently sort of ignoring the whole business.

The same as every year! I never stay awake much past 10 as I usually get up at 5 AM. I am not much of a drinker these days and usually its only beer which I consume in mass quantities. The last time I had hard liquor was with Weezell in Ohio in August. Guess I'll smoke a bowl and turn in early. In my opinion the whole world is two drinks behind the rest of us. Happy 2020 guys. Here is to health, happiness and the hope that science never brings out GMO Condor! ?

Apparently I’m 80.
For some reason a lot of people here welcome the New Year by shooting into the air. Not one or two rounds, the entire mag. We’re not on the edge of town any more but they haven’t noticed. Apparently not knowing where the round is going makes it safe. Good reason not to be outdoors or near windows around midnight. Chances are slim but . . .

We’re having two couples over, both dear friends. Bought a raclette set (table grill, hot stone) and 4lbs of cheese! Going to munch and sip all night.

Left home at 13, first mortgage at 17, never had time to party for New Year's. Too busy working. Now the last mortgage payment was 8 years ago and any party desire, if there ever was any, is long gone.

Here
A semi-snooty venue a mere 1.4 miles from my house has an all evening affair in their "back yard", where there are 3 fire pits and lots of interesting nibbles deployed in waves.

They'll have a DJ and a wet bar. It was fun last year, so we will give it another whirl this year. It's nice having something that close by and positioned so as to avoid the treacherous downtown lunacy.

My employer has no need of me tomorrow, so I can preload myself with a solid bout of day drinking beforehand and keep the bar tab civilized. I have a fresh bottle of The Botanist gin that should do the job...
