I think it’s a wise start. Most initially follow their noses and dabble into aromatics. PA is known to have a mild, nutty cocoa flavor and nice room note. You’ll find it and other old time blends very forgiving, easy burning, mild of nicotine but quite tasty.

You may come full circle, as many others have and discover that you’re already holding the goods! There’s a reason blends like these have been around for 100 years.

Let me know how that goes for you. I'm fairly new as well, but I went down the VaPer/English/Balkan route after getting off to a bad start on Aros. Still have yet to try a real Burley, so let me know.
