P&C's July 2018 catalogue lists 3 label varieties: Orange, Yellow, and Green; but the display ad, pg. 62, doesn't describe them. They're asking $14.45 for a 1.75 oz. tin. It doesn't look like it's on the website yet.

Spartan, you're a nut. Not a nun just a nut. }}:)
Unlike a number of folks, I actually don't mind the current "generic" 3N; original it's not, but not *bad* either. That said, I am !DEFINITELY! looking forward to trying the new ones!!!!!

I bought the Mac Barens version as one of my first tobaccos (since CS Lewis smoked it I wanted to follow suit) but wasn't a fan. Come November it will be aged about a year and I'll try again.
14.45 for 1.75oz is seems high, but I guess prices are only going up.
And since there is mention of Doblone d'ro, I recently picked some up and opened the tin today. The smell is wonderful, really I have nothing like it in my cellar. But is it pretty dry always out of the tin? It was borderline crunchy. I'll smoke some tomorrow and form first impressions, but dont think I'll need to dry it for too long before I do.

BTW, at the risk of both presumption *&* overkill :), for the benefit of those who may wonder why all the unbridled exuberance, a quick 411 on the background might help. Boss Kevin had a good blog post on the topic a few years ago. Here it is to help get up to speed. Enjoy!

I read that article earlier today, good read. I thought it was very interesting reading the note describing how to blend Three Nuns, I know so little but enjoy it so much. Thanks @bnic for posting the link.

I'm not likely to try these since regular three nuns is on my all time top 5 hated tobacco list.

How can one emoji a Mac Baren product? :nana:

Mac Barens Three Nuns is a very good blend IMO. Starts out as sweet virginia and progresses towards a more kentucky dominated smoke when you finish. It fits in somewhere between a straight virginia like Capstan Blue and Old Dark Fired. Delicious. Excited to try the new ones. That is if they become available outside the U.S.

Why or why don't they just remake the original version?

Because they are on contract to produce the blend from a certain recipe. Apparently they also produce Doblone d'Oro, and that is their take on "The Original".

Smoking my first bowl of Doblone d'Oro and it is really good! The dark fired is such a compliment to the VA in this, I'm blown away. When I smoked the Three Nuns, I felt it was harsh like cigarette smoke. I was new to pipe smoking so probably smoked it way too hot, I definitely need to give it another chance. ODF is good, but in my opinion it has such strong flavor I don't find myself reaching back to it. Like Workman says, if 3 Nuns is a nice medium to both a straight VA and ODF, I think Doblone falls into that category too.
Another thought, if Sutliff is going to release a new Three Nuns, does that mean Mac Baren is going to stop theirs?

D4k23: MacBaren will continue to make their regular Three Nuns. They're just adding two new blends to the line. Sutliff is the American distributor for MacBaren products, and is owned by MacBaren.

I just read Kevin's blog that bnichols23 posted a link to and the E. Roberts review of 3N, and found both to be some interesting and enjoyable reading, thanks for the link bnichols23.

Being a huge fan of the current version of 3N, I haven't ever smoked the older 3N version with perique, so I am definitely intrigued by this new iteration.

Warhorse, Sixpence, Doblone d'oro, Westminster Superior Slices and 3N are all staple blends for me now, so it looks as though this new version will be right in my wheelhouse. :puffy:

Markthelad: Doblone d'Oro is the closest thing to the VaPer Three Nuns made today.

I used to smoke 3N back in the 80's so I might give this stuff a whirl. After what they did to Condor it will be interesting to see what they have done to 3N.

My pleasure, guys. :) As much as I love Black Frigate now, I was almost as big a fan of this one back eons ago. Perique isn't a leaf that gets much PR these days, & TBH I really think it's undervalued by a lot of people.
It's prolly jes' dat dam Cajun in me, you heah me, hanh?! }:)

To be honest, I am not overly excited about new blends under the Three Nuns banner. What does get my attention is that these are, as far as I know, new blends being introduced to the market. I wonder if MacBaren has some inside information that, at least for the foreseeable future, Americans will be spared the egregious overreach of the FDA and their outlandish Deeming Regulations? We travel in hope...
Cheers,
Chili
