Hello Friends. New piper here from rural northwest Ohio. I'm a recent college grad in economics as well as having a minor in philosophy (I have a particular interest in metaphysics, french postmodernism, and understanding materialism).
My smoking history mainly stems from having a shisha (hookah), and a Saudi roommate, often enjoying a relaxing smoke of a traditional "double apple" blend during the evenings. I wanted something similar in the evenings now, but a shisha is a bit too much tobacco for one person (personally). So i looked to a pipe to be able to slow-down and think in the evenings. And so far it has been so much more: nearly becoming an extension of myself (and I'm sure others here can attest to that feeling).
I've been loving the forum here (especially pages linked to Lord of the Rings-related blends). So far I've been enjoying Cult Embassy as well as Dunhill London Mixture starting out in my Savinelli Sistina 106.
I look forward to taking part in discussions on the forum and learning from so many great and diverse people.
Cheers and Happy Piping.

Welcome. Several forum members have expressed a sincere interest in postmodernism lately, so you've come to the right place. That is if places really exist.

Your studies in understanding materialism will come in handy as you start to struggle with PAD and TAD. (Pipe Acquisition Disorder - Tobacco Acquisition Disorder) None the less, hope you have fun here, and we're looking forward to hearing more from you.

True MSO, I would also suggest an ECE certification as well (Early Childhood Education).
Don't be scared off motomiller, this is a great forum with great people. Ask any questions you have and they are sure to be answered.

haha, cheers guys.
Might be starting a thread soon. Im looking for a quintessential smoke. Maybe a cornerstone of a rotation that some of you more aged folks may enjoy or enjoyed for many years. I understand blends come and go (and some classic blends aren't as good as they used to be), but im wanting something "classic." Maybe rattrays?

Rattray's is a brand and they have several blends. On the virginia side they have Marlin Flake, Brown Clunee, Old Gowrie and Hal o' the Wynd that could all fit the bill. In the latakia department they have Red Rapparee and Black Mallory. Of course they have several more, but these are staple blends for some smokers, I think.

Of these, Marlin Flake and Hal o' the Wynd are go to blends for me. Might I suggest that you look them up on tobaccoreviews.com. It is a fountain of users impressions of blends.

My "current" quintessentials would be Esoterica Dunbar (hardish to find) and Gwaith Full Virginia flake (easyish to find).

"Im looking for a quintessential smoke."
You can ask a thousand smokers and get a thousand different answers. You will only find what you seek by trying as many blends as you are able to lay your hands on then deciding which is the 'quintessential smoke'.
Welcome to the forum and good luck in your quest.
Regards,
Jay.

I'm well aware of the subjectivity of taste buds, just wondering what some of you longer-time smokers found to be your go-to.
Ill scour the forum and shops for those I personally enjoy (I have an order on the way as this is being typed).
I'll definitely need a bit of luck on this quest.
Cheers!

Welcome aboard! I like all genres, but lean toward Virginia/Oriental blends.

Nice to meet ya! I grew up in the national cow town capital of Columbus, and make it out that way to visit family still.
+1 to Nightcap recommendation for ya. You can still grab some tins, so try it while there’s stock (and there’s still a little bit of bulk around though seems to be selling out quick as of late)
The community here has a ton of awesome recommendations, so definitely use the wealth of knowledge and experience available here.
Oh, and beware them damn pirates ...
