Sitting here smoking my Country Gentlemen with some Briar Fox reading this thread. To answer the OP question, cobs are great smoking pipes and get dumped on a lot by elitists, but they're excellent smoking pipes. Don't listen to the pipe snobs. As for having to relight your briar pipe, it could be the way it was packed as opposed to it still needing to be broke in, but once the briar pipe is broke in, you'll have more enjoyment from it, and you may have those occasions of no relights. Though relights are just part of pipe smoking, so don't worry that too much.

As for the other commentary on this thread about cobs being used for marijuana, and the pipe smoking industry being intertwined; I don't have an issue with it. I think it's been intertwined for decades. In today's society with marijuana being so prevalent, whether for medical need or just personal enjoyment, I think a lot of people just assume people are smoking weed when seeing someone with a corn cob and even other pipes. As traditional pipe smoking has died off over the years from where it once was during the 40's, 50's and 60's. On several occasions when seeing someone with a pipe (of any type), and I ask what they're smoking, the common answer I get is tobacco. As they assume I think they're smoking weed. I then follow it by asking what tobacco and inquiring about their pipe etc. Unfortunately, that's just where we are at as a society. I have friends that smoke weed in some of my old Chinese cobs that came with my tobacco of the month offerings from years ago. I don't smoke weed as I can't because of my job, but I most likely wouldn't anyway because that's something that has never interested me. I've also never had an issue with people smoking marijuana out of cobs or other pipes.

One of the tobacco shops I have frequented over the years caters to all smokers. They have roll your own supplies, they have a good variety of pipes and pipe tobacco, they have a nice cigar humidor, they have hookahs and hookah supplies, glass pipes and bongs for those that smoke weed. The staff there is always friendly and knowledgeable in all areas of smoking. I've seen staff help a new pipe smoker providing good information, and then help someone wanting to buy a bong. To me I think it's just good business, because they're catering to all, and it has helped their business be successful unlike some other B&M's that only sell pipes and cigars and struggle to stay in business. I never feel like I'm going into a "head shop" but just a nice tobacco shop.
