Last year, I determined that I needed a new, smaller solution for my pipe collection. It took a couple of months to find the right cabinet, and another week or so to refinish and equip it for my collection.

Al, do you think you'll miss the visibility of your collection? In the article you mentioned how they were often a conversation piece for guests visiting your home. Or a bit of "eye candy" to admire before turning off the puck lights and going to bed.

From the Reborn entry, on Amazon, I found a roll of 1/8" thick neoprene sticky-back padding. Cut to fit. Works perfectly to keep them planted. The drawer size and quality slide makes it come out smoothly, so no jostling.

I think the new set up looks fantastic. Neater and less clutter. I did something similar, not as nice as yours though. I got rid of all of my pipe racks/pipe stands and now store everything in drawers. Well done Al.

Thanks! I've had this storage solution in mind for about a year now. I tried to locate some map drawers, but they were too large, somewhat rare and pretty expensive. The Bachelors Chest seemed perfect, and for me, it is.

Looking forward to racks going on the market, joining this community has quickly upped my inventory.

whilst the chest keeps the pipes out of the light,therefore good for vulcanite.I as an onlooker prefer the visability of the display.
The glass cabinet is a nice piece in its own right.

I got so sick of the oxidation with racks that I bought this old cocktail cabinet (unfortunately no pictures of it open on my phone). The top section has some of my prized pipes on free standing racks, as well as others to grab quickly in some inbuilt racks in the doors (maybe for glasses? I'm not sure what they were originally intended for). I keep bits and pieces in the drawer (tampers, some vintage tins I want to keep separate, some pipes awaiting imminent restoration). The bottom section is for my jars and some of my tins. Needless to say, I have cardboard boxes under the bed with other tins and unrestored pipes.

The pipes on top all have acrylic stems, and need a bit of tidying since we moved.

I do love that oak cabinet and the display, but the reality is for us, it would likely not survive the inevitable move down South (Kids/grandkids are in Louisiana).

Here’s my attempt - I used an Amazon purchased spice pantry and modified with dowels and these little wooden rings. I plan on adding two more racks for pipes. The doors will hold 36 mason jars of fine tobacco.

On pipes that will be sold, it keeps the oxidation down.
