thanks Colcolt... I am always here after the shipment, too..My carver gives me life time guarantee therefore I give you the same.
You can't beat that. It looks so nice I almost hate to touch the bowl for fear of finger prints.
I will indeed post some pics as time goes on. Somewhere in my olde reloading stash I have some small cylindrical shaped bees wax I use to pinch off and put in my casting pot for fluxing. Maybe I can find those and use them initially.

No problem. With my trusty Nikon D200 and a good macro lens it wouldn't be difficult at all. That's the only way to me you can tell what's happened over time. I think of my dog( Welsh Corgi) and how he once weighed 35 pounds. That was five years ago. He now weighs 54 pounds. I didn't see it coming as I see him everyday and couldn't really tell without looking back at some past photos, which I take shots of him about every month, to see the change. Of course the scales tell the tale but not having one at home it's only when he sees the vet to I get the surprise. Photos will tell the story.

Thanks Colcolt, my meer in the profile picture is an SMS with a free-floating ring. I'm amazed that the ring is coloring right along with the bowl. Guess I expected it to stay white longer without the attachment. For the life of me, I can't see how the ring was completely detached from the bowl, but it's a light in the hand, and smokes very cool. Looking forward to more pictures of your pipe as it colors.

pipemana-What is a "free floating ring"? I've seen some meers that looked like they had a metal ring at the top of the bowl. Not sure what that's for.

It is signed by Sevket, one of a few I have of his. I have a beautiful Pirate by Kudret and a few more of his too :)
If you look at the picture, the basket weave at the top is completely free-floating from the pipe. I can turn it to my hearts content :) The weave itself has tiny holes where the weave come together, just like a basket.
Found this piece in Chicago at the International Show a few years back. Started smoking it then went into braces :( Not a good combination, braces and smoking and not because of the stains. The inside of my lips and jaws were so sore from the brackets, even the shortest smoke brought on more irritation that I ever dreamed could happen. Now the braces are off :) and the retainers aren't as bad, and I've picked my pipes back up on a limited basis.
When this pipe turns more, I'll update my profile picture.

Congratulations on a very nice looking pipe.
This is timely, as Storient has just become an official sponsor of Pipes Magazine. His ads are in production today, and should go up tomorrow.
In the meantime, please give him some consideration for your next Meer purchase.

I hoped it would get here this evening as they usually run in this area between 5-6:00 but they didn't make it. Really, I would have been surprised if it had arrived that soon...maybe tomorrow. I've got a dozen different types of tobacco just waiting to be packed in it and can't decide which to try first...maybe some C&D Autumn Evening since it's 90+ here lately.

That's fine...good things come to those who wait.:) My lips are already puckering from the anticipation. They'll have to fly it here to get here tomorrow. Maryland is a loooong way from TN.
It seems they're really moving. I checked a couple hours ago and it was in MD. Now it's in VA so, I'd say by the time I get home tomorrow or shortly thereafter I'll be in puffers heaven.

Yavuz-One thing came to mind about your pipes. Are they the screw-in shank type or turn clockwise and twist to remove and replace?

Thanks-I didn't want to try to screw it out counterclockwise if it had been the screw in variety. I would have cried had I done that!

I had read where some were (or had been) made that did screw in. Of course, I don't know how old that information was. It still amazes me there's only one place in the world to get quality materials for making these pipes. You'd think it would abound in certain countries besides Turkey. I guess Africa for one place, has mines but, I don't know about the quality.

That's quite educational. I've read, and you may have mentioned it as well, whereby the best quality originates from the mines at Eskişehir-some 200 feet below the surface. It's remarkable how anyone could take a raw piece of material in block form and carve it so beautifully. Truly, there are quite a few artisans in Turkey. What little I know about this sure does make one appreciate this sort of pipe even more so. I'd love to hear more.

Two of the best I've seen, and there are more, is Medet Kara and Kudret Gezer-quite the artisians and do beautiful work.

This is one I was seriously looking at as I think it's beautiful and is carved by Medet.

Back to the type of stem we were discussing. I knew I had read somewhere about the screw in stem but it's not the stem-it's the shank that's screwed in. Here's where I saw it and what they said...hope it's ok to link there.
"Third, if your pipe has a screw-in shank fitting (as most meerschaums do), twist the stem clockwise while removing it; twisting counter-clockwise could unscrew the fitting, and doing so repeatedly can strip the shank threads."

It came today!! I had been so busy admiring it and taking photos and of course, I had to try it out with some C&D Autumn Evenings baccy. First impressions were like, "Where has a pipe like this been all my life?"!! Such a cool smoke and I could taste the blend so well without bite and getting hot. A marvelous piece of art work to cap it all off. The carver should have put his initials on this one as it's worthy of his ownership and quality work. I think I may be in love.:)
I wanted to smoke another bowl of an aromatic but thought I'd best let it cool first. Tonight's not over with. I held it by the stem while smoking but later took a silk cloth and held the bowl.
