I decided I had to try the Meerschaum and got one from storient today. I like the idea of no cake needed and the fact that you can taste whatever blend you're using without it being influenced by previous smokes. A beautifully done and artistically pleasing pipe to me, I'm sure it will smoke wonderfully. This one is called the Ottoman.

Living alone has it's good points. You can file away money you would normally be spending on Christmas presents, birthdays, etc.:) I can imagine the time it takes to hand carve something like this and using the right materials from the onset.
Storient is one heck of a guy. He even sent me instructions on how to wax it...quite a process itself. Fortunately it's not something you need to do weekly or monthly, thankfully. I can't wait to smoke one of my aromatics in it. I may actually taste it.

Beautiful pipe, congrats to you and Storient for a job well done.
As a new pipe smoker myself and knowing some of your other posts, while the Meershcaum is the best pipe to experience the aromatics but don't think you will be hit in the face with a cherry, it is still a subtle flavor.....
stick with it, the longer you smoke the more you will detect the differences....

Nicely done all around. Good taste on your part, excellent execution by Storient"s carver.

I think the Meer is a whole world away from the traditional briar. At least, I've never heard of putting bees wax on a pipe until recently. Guess I'll have to order some Burt's Bees Wax Balm to have on hand when the time comes to "rejuvenate". According to storient, if you smoke about three bowls a day you need to do this after about six months. He has some marvelous looking pipes and something tells me this will probably not be my last one.
This is absolutely fascinating and makes you really appreciate the hard work and artistry that goes into making one of these marvelous pipes.

A convert indeed. I can see the possibility. Here is another different angle on this pipe...most intricate carving and salutations to the carver...a marvelous job.

It always amazes me how they can cut away the meerschaum without breaking off the detail. Beautiful pipe.

It is quite lovely. It's takes a special talent to be able to carve like that. I'll probably end up babying it no doubt but do intend on smoking it...after I take a few pics of course. I'd like to keep abreast of the changes over time to see how it colors. I noticed pipemama's has a very intricate pattern as well and is quite a beautiful piece.
I ran across this one by accident and wondered why it wasn't white. I guess they "pre" color them somehow but it's extraordinary.

Also as you smoke it will be coloring and I think you made a better choice to get a white one so that you ll be enjoying the coloring process from beginning.
I''m more than pleased with my choice and you're right-I'd rather watch the coloring myself. That's the fastest shipping I've ever encountered. I've ordered different items from places just a few hundred miles away that took a week to get here. Hats off and kudos to storient. You deserve full and notable accolades for a fine company.
