Actually not the case - we produce many ribbon cuts and shag tobaccos and RYO. In fact in the UK and other markets these make up a far greater percentage of our sales than flakes, plugs and twists. Again the world is much bigger than just the USA!
@gawithhoggarth thanks for replying! Great to see that your portfolio is diverse. Can you confirm your production numbers are in fact increasing? Any new blends or collaborations you are planning to release soon? Will they be available in the US?

Am finishing it now, ya beat me to the post lol.
Interesting that it was done before, and the official announcement shows reality is even worse than he was expecting so far.

Basically my read (as someone who's relatively neutral on Laudisi) is that after this, if you're an American, only ever buy from smokingpipes or your local B&M's/small internet blenders ever. Because as we we're finding out, when it comes to producers now, you basically have C&D, STG, GH, KOPP (not even fully independent from STG) and that's essentially it.

So whatever you buy that isn't C&D is gonna be made from outside of the US anyway... and since there won't be anything unique offered by anyone else (P&C basically) keep the money going to the last single US "producer/factory" and small US blenders left.

Basically (again as someone who's personally 'meh' on Cornell & Diehl) we have to focus on concentrating our resources in the last bastion of this hobby that's gonna be left after this.

Obv a ton more to unpack but that's like my action statement going forward as someone who's hoarded his fill of what used to be of the world pre 1/2/2025...

What a serious shame and truly the end of an era/change of the whole market forever. And I honestly don't understand how anyone else in this hobby can see it as something else...
Anyway... Goodnight and good luck, fellas 🫡
Not keen on any rallying call to action or see the need - I mostly buy via SP, local/internet blenders anyway but if there is some other source that gets me something I want at a better price or at all, I'm sure I'd look at it.

Reflecting on the interview, I think one of the most interesting things to me was learning that Mac Baren's Mixture: Scottish Blend accounts for 50% of all of Mac Baren's pipe tobacco sales. I had no idea it was so wildly popular, and having never tried it before (and being a sucker for pretty much anything with Virginias and Dark Fired Kentucky in it) I think I'm going to have to pick up a tin to try now! Since it's one of the very few Mac Baren blends sticking around it's still in stock pretty much everywhere and easy to get ahold of.puffy

I think it's easily seen from the increased deliveries to the USA that production has increased in the last couple of years. If you listen to Jeremy McKenna's podcast he explains a little about the FDA and how you cannot easily introduce new blends to the US market legally. So whether any new stuff we decided to bring out will be available will depend on what is possible under FDA regulations.

You misunderstand me.
This is how i always was too.. I just placed an order with P&C yesterday even though they've literally stolen money from me in the past... because they're the only place you can still find H&H.

The point is going forward there's not gonna be anything unique anywhere other than SP. So if you want to do the only thing you can to assure the last tobacco producer in our hemisphere stays in business/independent, they must be supported over any others. If the offerings of SP and P&C is exactly the same but some things are 50 cents more at SP now, I'm still gonna support SP.

Interesting, maybe I’ll try not to buy anymore STG going forward. I do really like Orlik and Nightcap though, could be hard. I wonder if Gawith makes a powerful full flavoured English close to Nightcap in stench and flavour😃? Or maybe C/D?

No, I understood perfectly. Do as you wish, but I'll do as I wish and if P&C , for example, has a tobacco offering or anything else that appeals to me for whatever reason, I'll buy it or anything else there.

I don't see it as a "wear the ribbon" thing and suggesting what I or "we" or others "must do" is nothing but potentially divisive and presumptuous - all IMO, but I don't think that's what we need to be worrying about here.

I think Island Gold / Mixture would be a winner in the US. It's rather impressive; not usually my kind of thing but it does what it set out to do.

You have HU Tobacco's Fayyum and Zulu over there. They are mighty fine and stenchy. Perhaps that could be a stand in for Nightcap?

Yeah we do HU, I’ll look into them, their Balkan looks potent! I‘ve already found my English, Nightcap, and don’t really want to search around, but not impressed with STG either currently…

Not gonna happen. I'm not knocking C&D and I know a lot of people like their style, but I'm not one of them. I'm not going to stop smoking GH, Dan, or Kopp just to "buy American." Small businesses in other countries need support, too.

I’m talking to myself again as usual. Common Wealth mixture by Gawith looks like a strong English from my reading, thought they only had lighter ones like skiff mixture or Squadron leader, something like that.
