The box has arrived. I will be sorting through it in the next day or so, taking out some samples and adding some of my own. Uber and I are going to try to do an in person pass, since we live within an hour of each other. We have already begun discussions on this. I'll let you know what happens. :puffy:

Well that was nice and quick, Jud! Glad it arrived safely. And thank you for doing the hand-off to Uber.
Yes, I'll be posting the newly updated list shortly, with a few minor changes.
I think we should keep a limit on the box to the large flat-rate mailer, for a couple reasons: one, it limits the number of blends to "Wow, that's a little bit overwhelming", rather than "GOOD LORD HOW AM I EVER GOING TO SAMPLE THIS IN 2 WEEKS???". It will also limit any losses if when the box goes AWOL again. Third, it keeps a nice under-$20 price point on this exercise, also limiting losses. To that end, don't be shy about taking samples out, and please confine your additions to it to (mostly) tobacco--and in baggies rather than tins--in order to make the maximum room available for what this is intended as--passing around tobacco.

I think that's a great idea, Romeo. I was able to sit down with the box, a Sharpie, and some baggies, and, within about 30 minutes, have out what I wanted to sample, dump the 4 cans in baggies, and add my contributions. It's manageable. :puffy:

+1 jud
That is the way this should go in my opinion. A day to check out whats there pull your treats, add your treats, ship it to the next in line.

Rome - Don't let evil win over in what is an inevitable situation. No matter how tightly the ropes get tied shit is going to happen. Shipping tobacco over state lines and taxes, who knows, a post office Nazi may grab and hold the box for investigation etc. I think if people just prepared themselves before they get the box and just put together what their contribution will be. Then when the box arrives drool and play around with it and grab what is close to what you set aside. Then pictures, posts and confirming next stop.
The "box" got huge because of the nature of 99% of us to put in way more than we take. With months before it's my turn I already have a good idea what I'm going to be adding. In my mind if I add 25% more than I take it will make me feel better, the box grows into the huge menagerie of pipe "stuff" and it will get heavier. The first two are what it's all about and the third the inevitable.
I think it's great that you've stepped up like this and started a new box, but I still think that tracking down the last box, even if it’s bad news, it’s a good ideal. By putting yourself on this list you've entered into a contract to receive goods of value shipped by mail over state lines and then send it to another location the same way. If the box wasn't "lost" then a felony has taken place against all of us, and tracking down this person (box) is very easy, the box was received with a delivery number. Even if this was dropped on the front porch and stolen, it's a police matter. What was stolen and its value is well documented.

I agree Roth "the box" has PITA written all over it. That's why it's not for everyone, and those who choose to take part in it be serious about it before signing up to be on the list. The evidence of how wonderful the thing is posted over the first 10 pages of the thread. When the other shoe drops is on this last page. We're to nice and trusting sometimes for our own good.

Supposed to be a nice day Tuesday. We're gonna meet at a big park about half-way in between, so we can sit around and share a bowl and gab.

MOST excellent!!!! Glad to hear that the generosity and camaraderie of the group is again moving in a positive direction. Not sure if Romeowood is taking new names, but I just might have to meet up with Sam :)

Ben and I had a good gab. I will say that I love NYPC Bowling Green - you guys are lucky I left any in there. I can see that will be another red Virginia to add to the two already in rotation. (Hartwell Signature and McCranie's Red Ribbon, for those keeping score at home.)

I leave for 7 months and come back to the same situation. Like the Bruce Hornsby song, "Some things will never change, that's just the way it is".
People, what a primitive, rotten, poor excuse for biological organisms, is this the best we do?....YEP

If your name is not on it, and it used to be, that means you didn't get back to me with updated info. Sorry.

If your name is not on the list and you want it to be, and you qualify according the the criteria and agree to the terms of the pass, then send me a PM.
And thanks everyone for being patient while this was sorted. I think the large flat-rate box is the way to go--faster turn-around time, no worries about distance shipped, automatic insurance to $50, etc. etc.

Heres some pictures of the box. I haven't put my contributions in yet. Theres some real good stuff in here, including Balkan Sobranie 759 from the 1980s, Balkan Sobranie Virginia blend from the 1980s, and the new 3 Nuns. It's taking a lot of will power to keep from taking the entire baggie of these.
