Never Thought I’d Buy a Prince...

... but darn if I didn’t just do exactly that. I’ve never found them remotely attractive until I laid eyes on this baby. It’s stamped “CORPS 30TH” in addition to the usual Ashton markings. From 2014, apparently it’s some sort of special run for the CORPS Pipe Show? Don’t know a thing about any of that, but she’s a fine looking pipe. The length of stem really allows the Cumberland pattern to shine, and at 6.5” this is my longest pipe by far, almost verging into baby Churchwarden territory by the looks of it. Anyway, won’t have it for a few days, just thought I’d spam everyone with more Ashton porn ?

@3rdguy I’ve never smoked one, but the bowl is quite shallow and wide. A departure from my usually narrow bowls. Do you find any particular blends smoke best out of these types? I’ve heard complex blends blossom due to greater surface area smoking at once.

I think that is the general idea.
I smoke Old Joe Krantz in it several times a day. It is dedicated to that blend only for the reason I find it is perfect in that shape\size. I puff pretty fast so I am curious to see how the Hercules performs.

@3rdguy Hopefully it performs beautifully. I puff pretty rapidly as well. Lately I rarely have issues with bowls getting warm, though. There seems to a a fair bit of briar around this bowl, more than the one picture suggests. Hoping it smokes ultra cool ?

The prince shape has great features such as usually a broad chamber and relatively light weight, as well as simplicity and elegance. Maybe because it as named after an English royal, it has an image of being somewhat effete looking, but once you put a prince to work, you find out it is really something of a work horse. I have two Sav prince versions, and a Rossi. I think the broad chamber spreads out the ember and lets a blend of five or six tobaccos meld in flavor.

I love the prince shape, one of my absolute favorites. Similar to @3rdguy the Sav 315 is my go to, I have two spigot sterling 315KS pipes (a bordeaux and a natural), one 315KS Qandale, as well as a Roma 315EX (quite a beast of a bowl).

I also love Ashton pipes, and your purchase is a fantastic looking pipe. Would be proud to own it, nice work! I'm sure it will be a great smoker. Congrats!

My prince's bowl is not particularly wide nor shallow. Definitely not a pot. Narrow bowls? Yes, and I am awaiting another stack at this moment.

I am a huge spigot lover as well. One of my favorites ever (which is also kind of cross between a prince and a tomato) is my Peterson 2005 Pipe of the Year. Not a huge Pete fan generally, but this pipe kicks ass and the Spigot Silver work is incredible.
