The only real thing I'd concern myself with is making sure you aren't ordering blends that people think are the same just different names, like Peter stokkebye Balkan supreme/arango Balkan supreme/ Balkan sasieni, all the exact same thing
Uhhh… not sure where you got that, but Balkan Sasieni is most definitely *not* the same as the other two.

The PS BS and Arango BS are indeed the same as one another. But Balkan Sasieni is its own unique blend.

Well... I failed 😄 I ordered late last night while I was tired and ordered a ton. As for the cherry blends, I found a cheap cherry sampler as well. At least I won't have to order for a while. Like I said, I'm out 1-2 months at a time so I'm actually OK with what I bought. Shipping speeds are super fast, half of this already shipped.

My order:
* Capstan Flake Blue
* Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired
* Cornell & Diehl: Haunted Bookshop, Autumn Evening & Opening Night
* G. L. Pease: Ellipsis & Quiet Please
* Lane Limited 1-Q
* Escudo Navy De Luxe
* Captain Black Original
* Five Brothers
* Sutliff Vanilla Custard

Cherry Shootout:
* Lane Very Cherry
* Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish
* Captain Black Cherry
* Brigadier Black Antietam
* Paladin
* Cult Blood Red Moon
Right on.
Sounds like you ordered from P&C.
As for the humidity, don’t overthink it. Get 8oz Ball wide top jars and you’ll be fine. Many (myself included) prefer drying most blends anyway. If a “to go” portion winds up drying more than you want before you’ve finished it, toss it back in with what’s in the jar and little balance out. I’ve rarely had any tobacco get too dry, and I live in the desert.

I actually ordered from Smokingpipes, Boswellpipes & P&C.

I can't really buy and store in a bunch of glass jars though. You'd be amazed at the pounding you take in a big truck, be it own our pot hole filled roads and highways or unexpected terrain at customers, etc. I can just see my own unique blend of broken glass and tobacco.

I suggest finding a way to pad the outside of the containers. Breakage isn't the only problem. If things are bouncing around like that it will turn the tobacco into something closer to dust.
I also suggest if you're newer at pipe smoking to focus on smoking through a few tins at a time. Often a blend opens up with experience and the whole how to pack it and what rate you sip to get the best experience sort of comes more naturally when you don't jump from one blend to another right away.
But that's just my opinion. And as far as what to change in your order I'd say leave it as is. If you don't like a blend you can always find someone who will happily trade you for a blend you like or are curious about.

I think you're way over thinking this. Order lots, enjoy the fact you live in the usa and don't have to worry about customs and extremely high prices like 50+ dollars for a 50 gram tin. Variety is the spice of life. For cherry though cult blood red moon is the one I here people talk about the most. The only real thing I'd concern myself with is making sure you aren't ordering blends that people think are the same just different names, like Peter stokkebye Balkan supreme/arango Balkan supreme/ Balkan sasieni, all the exact same thing
Definitely.
Given that tobacco gets better with age it's very difficult to go wrong buying more, even if you never smoke it all your tins will go up in value 5-10 years from now.

You're right ballan sasieni doesn't contain Cavendish. Someone had stated russ oulette said that they were all the same. Maybe they're the same as in Cavendish is added to balkan supreme. But I guess I made the mistake of believing something said on the internet. There are alot of blends that are so similar there's speculation it's the same blend

I remember taking that advice 10 years ago, the regular price has more than doubled, a 50 gram tin was between 7-10$ then. It wasn't going to get any cheaper and it's not like there'd be more variety. Syrian is gone now, it was widely available then, McClellands gone, now most of macbaren, sutliff, the list goes on from all the boutique blends that don't have the same leaf to work with.

Shaky ground that. There is no official body to issue an edict as to what is English or define any blends by type. So, definitions are purely personal definitions issued by individual smokers. So, we are left with definitions which smoe agree with and others? Well, they see it differently. There are definitions which a preponderance of smokers agree with. But, they carry only the weight numbers.
*Sigh* There's no official body to determine any of the stuff we talk about on here... if everyone has to put the asterisk *this definition is not in Miriam Webster, but one only held by the convention of 9,999,999/10,000,000 pipe smokers over the last 5-10 decades... then why even discuss lol

These are generalized terms that are used to quickly categorize thousands of blends into a few easier to talk about labels/categories based upon their characteristics. Research the subject and you'll find 99.9% of the people who are pipe smokers or retailers or producers defining an English STYLE blend as "A blend of Virginia and Latakia tobaccos and usually with oriental tobaccos as condiment"

"Once upon a time, the term “English blend” referred to any tobacco without top flavoring, but these days we associate it with Latakia blends, usually accompanied by Virginia and Oriental."

"ENGLISH: A blend which contains Latakia.
BALKAN: Latakia and Orientals are added to a base of Virginias. English blends may or may not have a percentage of Orientals but Balkans will always have Oriental added."

"English blends are the oldest and most unadulterated category of pipe tobaccos. These blends originated in England and Scotland centuries ago and they have been characterized by their use of Oriental and Latakia tobaccos. Since the late 1800s [and the introduction of Virginia tobaccos], English blends have been using a heavy base of Virginia mixed with ample Oriental and spiced with "condiment" tobaccos like Latakia and Perique. English blends have a fuller body and stronger taste+aroma than aromatic blends."

Class A since 2000, but it’s just a useful addition to being a heavy equipment operator-I’m not an OTR guy.

If I were going to travel long-term with a bunch of tins/samples, and didn’t want to take jars, I’d at least get an airtight container (like a Sistema 236, which I use for cigars) to try to keep humidity somewhat stable. Maybe throw in a Boveda too.

Nice list! Let us know how you like them!
