Sutliff Vanilla Custard is excellent and it remains in production (it was one of the few blends STG kept).

Too many cherries. Just pick one.

Escudo for a VaPer.

C&D Pegasus for a burley.

I’d skip the Captain Black.

Not sure how you are getting HH Old Dark Fired as it has been discontinued. There are plenty of other dark fired options. I might suggest Peterson Irish Flake as a replacement.

Not all Latakia blends are English (even though many people say this) but all English blends have Latakia (Yes, there are other blends made in/branded from England that don't have Latakia... but they are not considered "English blends")
Shaky ground that. There is no official body to issue an edict as to what is English or define any blends by type. So, definitions are purely personal definitions issued by individual smokers. So, we are left with definitions which smoe agree with and others? Well, they see it differently. There are definitions which a preponderance of smokers agree with. But, they carry only the weight numbers.

I vote cross off the dark fired for taking on the road. You probably don’t want something that strong while you are driving.

Oh, and all English blends have Latakia... it's what makes them English. +1
That’s about as clear as the mud gets. Probably a third to half of my smokes are GH&Co/Sam Gawith, but probably one in a thousand are English😉

Some HH blends and others will be available in Germany, and other non-US markets, but MrMcKenna’s release is the facts of the matter in the US.

Anything not on the list you still find for sale is inventory still in stock but once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Well, that stinks huh? As much as people claim to love it I think I'll order some while it's still in stock even though they won't be making more.

It might be worth pointing out, if you have no prior experience with tobacco it could take weeks to months before you can differentiate between even the major genres of tobacco leaf.

Aromatic vs. English should always be apparent (because these are highly potent additive processes, you're not tasting the leaf) but the subtleties of Burley vs. Virginia might not be noticeable until you've acclimatized to the smoke itself.

It's the same principle as eating curry for the first time vs. after a month of regular consumption, nuance only comes after familiarity.

LOL. Do *not* rely on AI for *anything*, especially anything relating to smoking. Computers can’t smoke. Nor can they think. They’ll make shit up just to have an answer to give you, and that’s a fact.

Seriously. Don’t use AI, it makes you dumber.
Especially with collector and hobbyist stuff. I was just showing my wife last week how AI’s answers to specific firearms questions were mirroring the most common fallacies that have long been regurgitated by Internet know it alls that parrot bad info themselves (we all know the type, I’m sure😉).

I know the urge is to try everything under the sun right now, but I think the best course of action might be to pick a handful that look promising and really spend some time with them before branching out more. I still get the feverish impulse to open a bunch of tins, but force myself to limit it to a half dozen or so at a time and work through them. I feel that it can lead to greater appreciation of the tobacco.

If you come across a blend that really doesn't seem to be working for you, maybe jar it up and come back to it later. You might be surprised that you enjoy it later on. I've only ever dumped one blend in the trash after the first try, because it was just that bad. C&D Sweet English, if you're curious.
Well... I failed 😄 I ordered late last night while I was tired and ordered a ton. As for the cherry blends, I found a cheap cherry sampler as well. At least I won't have to order for a while. Like I said, I'm out 1-2 months at a time so I'm actually OK with what I bought. Shipping speeds are super fast, half of this already shipped.

My order:
* Capstan Flake Blue
* Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired
* Cornell & Diehl: Haunted Bookshop, Autumn Evening & Opening Night
* G. L. Pease: Ellipsis & Quiet Please
* Lane Limited 1-Q
* Escudo Navy De Luxe
* Captain Black Original
* Five Brothers
* Sutliff Vanilla Custard

Cherry Shootout:
* Lane Very Cherry
* Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish
* Captain Black Cherry
* Brigadier Black Antietam
* Paladin
* Cult Blood Red Moon

Sounds like you have a good long term plan for trying the different genres, I’m not sure what your pipe smoking experience level is, but if you are just starting out you might want an easy smoking blend for when you are in your truck so that you don’t have to fiddle around and can focus on driving and not keeping your pipe lit. A few C&D burley blends might fit the bill. Bulk OJK Blue is a good one. I use a coffee grinder to prep it for easy smoking. A few quick bursts gets it to a good consistency for gravity fill or codger scoop. Smoke your other blends at home or when not driving so you can focus on the nuance's and technique required of each blend. When I started out I bought dozens of blends of different genres and jumped around too much. I wish I had picked an easy smoking blend and focused on that for a while and learned the basics of smoking a pipe. This advice may not apply to you, but someone starting out may benefit from it.

Haha, well I did the same thing when I got started, except I bought even more tobacco. Unfortunately, I didn't store it adequately and most of it dried to a crisp. Have fun trying them all out.

I see no failure here. Enjoy the experimentation!

I ran across this article about proper tobacco humidity when storing, which he explains is 55%. I am planning on getting a Boveda bag and a humidity pack for the road but can only find 58% packs. If you know where I can get a 55% pack I'd appreciate the info.

If you're getting the humidity pack for the road don't worry about exact measurements, as soon as you open a tin/bag it's starting to dry out and will always be in a state of re-hydration.

I think you're way over thinking this. Order lots, enjoy the fact you live in the usa and don't have to worry about customs and extremely high prices like 50+ dollars for a 50 gram tin. Variety is the spice of life. For cherry though cult blood red moon is the one I here people talk about the most. The only real thing I'd concern myself with is making sure you aren't ordering blends that people think are the same just different names, like Peter stokkebye Balkan supreme/arango Balkan supreme/ Balkan sasieni, all the exact same thing
