Yup, Road Town, the R is SOOO close to the S and R (Steve and Roswitha) mark, it's perilous.

So a Chinese knockoff of a Chinese pipe...that's Inception level stuff...
It's a real Road Town pipe. So it's Chinese of manufacture, yes. The pipe intentionally bears stamps that are very close to stamps found on other pipes - anchors are pretty common, the Maltese Cross, and a stylized script "R" very similar to an American hand made brand. None of it is accidental. They should put a crown on there too and people will think "Maybe it's an old Stanwell..."

That Westerners DON'T typically do it is something they consider a weakness. A naive approach to dealing with the world.
Only in the past decade or so has China taken an interest in Western-style tobacco pipes.

I feel like this is a bit far fetched.... what well known pipe makers use anchors and crosses? It would make more sense to go after the B, C, D's.
I can agree on them pretending to be an established brand with high-brow markings that could trick people into thinking it's an established brand. I mean Castello started with a made up word for marketing purposes.
Just saying I don't think they're trying to counterfeit anything.... because we know there are actual counterfeits out there and the ability to replicate exact pipes

There is a pipe on EBay that looks like a unstained Tom Eltang rusticated Cutty.
The giveaway is that it has a bamboo shank.
I'd love to have both that and a genuine Eltang Cutty in hand to compare.
Some years ago I was speaking with someone who was selling his own line of handmade brass bed frames.
He said the alarm bells should have sounded when a buyer bought one of each of his six models.
Some months later the market was flooded by much cheaper Chinese knockoffs.
Completely killed off his business.
I mean, I'll play.
Aside from ubiquitous drugstore pipes stamped Captain Black or something like that, the actual anchor you are talking about, or again, perilously close, we find on a super high end co-operative, namely Tao-Ilsted. Have a look here. Same frickin anchor really.

No lol, I bought it because it's a great looking sub-$100 pipe and I love capped pipes. I'm here because usually something with 3 symbols would be identifiable and the listing didn't say.
