I named my first pipe (a Lorenzetti Titus 23) Hass. I picked the name because he looks like a Hass avocado.

Uh, no. Inanimate objects have no need for a name, which is what I tell my fiancé about her cars.

Isn't it the Captain, and the Captains of other ships, then, that need a name for their ships, and not the ships themselves?

To think such would be to ignore both the history of naming ships and the feelings people have for the vessels they serve or work on. There is much more to naming a ship than maritime interactions.

The earliest known version of the joke appeared in a single-panel cartoon, reproduced from the London tabloid weekly The Humorist by the Canadian newspaper The Drumheller Review in 1931. It showed two men standing by their rails, shouting through megaphones:

I call the dog in the office 'dog' as I can never remember its name. It now only responds to the word 'dog' or Satan's Little Helper but that is only when it sh*ts on the office floor. I don't give me pipes a name, they are a little bit like asian girlfriends, they all look vaguely similar!

I did remember I have one pipe with a "name". I received a pipe as a gift from Bradley "The Old Cajun". I now refer to the pipe as "The Old Cajun".

Oddly enough... I'm fairly new to this whole thing, but I've named the 6 pipes I have so far. LOL Although, the novelty is already wearing off...... Can't see it continuing for long. Especially with PAD slowly taking hold of me.
