John, you just reminded me of an uncanny knack my Father had. At any time of the day I could ask him the time and he would pause a moment then say something like "it's 12 minutes past 4" and when I checked my watch he was invariably within a handful of minutes at most of the actual time no matter what time of day I asked him.

I never knew how he did that nor have I ever known anyone else do it. That really was strange!
That sounds about like me. It's a "skill" anyone can get better at; same with temperatures. Always ask yourself the question, answer it, and then check it vs. reality.
I also knew a guy in gaol who was as thick as treacle & could barely read or write yet was amazing with numbers! You could ask him 14 times 16 and he would tell you in seconds.....amazing!
Sounds like a true idiot-savant!
And the gaol thing surprises me.... did you actually do time? Or a visitor, guest of the warden....?

I have many skill sets. Most are not talked about in polite society. My wife tells me I have a large hole in my skills when it comes to communicating. She has told me many times that I have no filters but I should. I tell her I have no time for stupid, uninformed people. She is often afraid of what will come out of my mouth when we are around people. I don’t really care.

Did time on several occasions in my early days. Never for anything 'dodgy' or dishonest, just defending what was mine or my rights.

Got a 3 year stretch for GBH on a guy who touched up my girlfriend, 4 months for a street fight where someone got stabbed (he got 3 years), 3 months for riding my motorcycle whilst banned (a bit naughty was that), another 4 months for beating up a guy & breaking his collar bone for kicking my girlfriend's car.....and so it went.

Pretty much a waste of my time really so a guest of her Majesty as opposed to the warden ;)

Regards,

Jay.

My wife can't tell left from right. When we're driving, we use "your way" or "my way".

I am terrible at finding things. Which Is why I adapted to "a place for everything and everything in its place". If my wife touches any of my things, and doesn't put them back in that exact same spot, I can't find it. It's not where it belongs, so it's gone. If I put my lighter in my left pocket instead of the right, for some wierd reason, It'll take hours to find it. A form of ocd I suppose that grew throughout the years.

My gift is knowing when people lie to me. In the car business every person who walks on to the lot has a big L on their forehead that means liar. Buyers are liars. I trained my sales people on how to qualify someone in 10 questions or less and watch the tells that everyone has. Me I am a professional liar when I needed it in the car biz and then dealing with vendors in my own businesses.

I forgot the useless part. I fix nothing, I have guys who does the work. An electrician, plumber, appliance guy. I never owned a lawn mower in my entire life. I always had a lawn guy.

You're one of a handful here!

hahau
Literally my wife just asked me about a painting she's doing. I told her that it's shit. Her perspective is all out. So whilst she was showering I tried to work out the perspective. Got it. I'm no artist, but I'm an engineer.
This is priceless, she then said to me, "well if you're so f'ing perfect, why don't you paint it!" I understand that there are two things going on here, but you get what I mean, right?

I grew up poor, was basically on my own at 16 when my mom was killed, never finished high school (i got shipped to Boston to live with a brother), obviously never went to college, worked hard at surviving and now completely self-taught I’m a user experience designer in the software industry, I’d bet you money that everyone here has used a site that I’ve designed. I have always thought good UX was common sense because it comes natural to me, not the case. All of that said i make a comfortable living my blind spot is finances, after the divorce (marrying the right person huge blind spot lol) my finances are “I’m old, i grew up with nothing and i want X so I’m buying it”. I better not live too much longer ?

another blind spot and one that is all hindsight is i was offered a job with Amazon before they launched (i designed it) and i turned it down, i was offered a job with Facebook a year after they launched but the bitch didn’t want to move so i turned that down and then the same with google 3 yrs after they launched. 3 chances to be retired and rich literally rich and i blew them all. We’ll time to go slime back some cheep vodka. ? ?

The proper action was to say that is awesome honey some of your best work yet, congrats.
Yes, that should've been my answer. But if you see my earlier post about tact.... and I should also mention that this work is for an exhibition, I don't want her to embarrass herself. You will see where I'm coming from.
The thing is with tact, I don't do it well, because if I'm shit at what I'm doing, I want somebody to tell me I'm shit. I grew up in a world where if you didn't cut the wasabi, you were out, forget feelings. I don't pander to appease someone's feelings. Likewise, if I'm an asshole, tell me. To my face.

Can’t look back it would be bad and when i do at least i can laugh about it. I was on a project as the designer a few years ago to redesign all of the call center software for Nike worldwide. Great project and thankfully they loved me (took me to Amsterdam and Dublin for 10 days to test designs with users in EMEA, i was at HQ in the biggest conference room I’ve ever seen, i counted 40 chairs at the table and more around the walls. They were there for a briefing if executive leadership including COO / CIO, Bill Walsh the works. Spent 20 min going around the table for introductions and Chuck the Nike PM skipped me, John Donaho (sp?) said who’s that and pointed right at me, Chuck says “oh that’s just the picture guy” and everyone on the project laughed, i use that as an ice breaker in projects to this day. For the record my design reduced HT (handle time by an insane 24% and first call resolution went up by 30% all within a week … also unheard of), that is a shit load of money when all of your call centers around the world are contracted out, not to mention customer satisfaction. But i ramble.

I'm pretty good when it comes to trouble shooting computer issues or atleast looking up the answer. but man I feel completely lost when it comes to auto mechanics. I know how to change a tire and do a oil a change simple and check/add fluids i can do but beyond that nope im lost on other stuff.

I hate talking on the telephone and do so only when pushed and then cut the call as soon as I can.

I'm also not a huge fan of small talk

Jay.
Irish-Scots wife. You should hear her and her 3 sisters when they get together

To this day she professes not to understand how I can have a sub-2 min phone call with any member of my family :ROFLMAO:

Every phone conversation I ever have with my 80 year old father:

Dad- How is your son?
Me - he’s good
Dad- how is work?
Me -,work is ok
DaD - would you like to speak to your mother?
