Wow Jason, the first was good but this is the kind of freehand that I like. Well shaped but still very organic looking with a natural elegance and asymmetry that let's the woods natural state shine through. Even the rustication shows a more organic sophistication to the nature of the briar. It will be interesting to see what you make next!

Even the rustication shows a more organic sophistication to the nature of the briar, also as if the rustication was always there, you just uncovered it. It will be interesting to see what you make next!

Haunted - thanks very much sir. i tried to just make what felt right and the wood did definitely decide where i was to rusticate. here is the pipe after shaping, and before rusticating. The underside of the pipe was a bit bald and there were a couple of small flaws in there so it made perfect sense to me.

Oh, that is stellar! You have a fine talent with the wood my friend. My favorite pipes are freehand plateaus with a touch of rustication. You should go pro!

rigmedic... four months ago, my first pipe kit was the first thing i ever made out of wood. i have found since then that i am a big fan of working with wood. seems i learned more from my grandfather than i ever thought i did.

i have collected together a couple of drill presses, a scroll saw, a bench sander with belt and 5" wheel, and s coworker has a sweet hookup on a mini wood lathe for me. getting all the shop goods together so that when our lease is up on this apartment we can rent a house where i can have the space to set everything up. there will be a time

That's my kind of freehand. Never cared for the stump on a stick ones that were so popular in the 70's.

That looks great man. The quality engineering of a Nording pipe, looks better than what Nording woulda turned the block into and only cost $30 brand new ! Plus the satisfaction of smoking your own creation, how the heck could you go wrong with that ???

I cant wait to see some more of the other pipes that were in that box.
