Yup, my serval, Senef-Ra', was an amazing girl. Had her nearly eight years but sadly, leukemia took her away. If I didn't have three kids now, I would definitely get another. Those Savannah cats are also amazing to behold in person.

Bathtub litter box.
Could never litter train my serval, she would always paw at the door and make chirping sounds when she had to go. Would take her on walks much like a dog.

Congrats for such a new lovely friend!
Please do not pet him too much unless he gets some good, or bad, habit!

Congratulations, I have a friend in town that has one. They are huge. It pulled all of the doors off of their cabinets, just playfully yanked them off the cabinets. Then it had done a few other things to their house before they built a large indoor/outdoor cage habitat. They still get it out and walk it. It takes a special person to take on these unique animals. Kudos to you. I bet it will be a great experience. You'll have to bring it to pipe club meetings. Let it sample different blends.

Amazing looking creature. Even "pure" domestic cats walk the edge between wild and domestic. It would be a really good idea to read up on introducing a new cat to the household. We did everything suggested and the Maine Coon brothers we adopted into the household first have never quite accepted the little shorthair female who relocated here with my wife from another state. Luckily, though twice their age, she has huge spirit and can hold her own, but it is not always serene. They will all sleep on the bed with us, but they sometimes do battle on us as well, which makes me roar and stomp. I don't mean this in a negative way at all, but have in mind a plan to relocate this beautiful creature if it doesn't work out in this situation. Cats are ultimately territorial, and if they aren't happy with their turf, they will want to move on. Good luck, and I hope Lego is a happy member of your household. P.S., I have loved to watch new cats in the household survey the territory. When they have thoroughly surveyed and inspected, if they are satisfied, they usually plop down on the bed and take a good nap, satisfied.

That sure is a beautiful animal Nate. Congrats.

I'd be a little worried about Tivo going missing though.

I am impressed by how many of you have experience with these cats. This is the first time I've heard of them. You all obviously have much more interesting lives and get out more!

I never heard of it either, though there are several domestic cats that have been bred for leopard spot coats. I have seen Servals, Caracals, desert cats and oselots (sp?) at the zoo. Wolf-dog mixes are also popular, though there have been problems with disposition and the wildness they retain. My involvement has been with domestic cat rescues. My so-called "Maine Coons" are really hybrid rescues right out of a drain pipe, but phenotypically (their looks) are almost pedigree Maine Coon; I think that was daddy. A devoted foster mom (human) fed them with a bottle for months. Maine Coons have a strong affinity for human company, to some degree dog-like, and I am hoping these also have hybrid vigor. Though I grew up with an amazing much loved water dog (Springer-Cocker mix of huge strength and vigor), my first exposure to a domestic animal was a small gray mama cat who (I suspect) trained me well in cat manners, since cats seem uncommonly comfortable with me, some cats that never greet anyone and hide under furniture with guests.

I have a Manx, which was given to me by someone who breeds show cats, who knows the folks downtown that have the Svannah, but even if you don't know them for their cats, everyone who drives by sees the cage in the back yard with the giant cat in it.

Nate, you were across the street from the house when we met on the back deck of that restaurant for pipe club night.

Congrats again.
