My New Mini - Eltang Basic

Hello to you all.

Spring is coming and I have been looking for a new pipe.
I wanted a small and leight pipe for walking, bicycle-rides. café-visits and that sorts of things.
I found it today; an Eltang Basic!
Breaking it in with Orlik Golden Sliced.
First smoke right now - I can feel, we will be best friends

You are right!
It smokes very well. Have a narrow chamber, that's perfect for flakes and a nice open flow - drilling is 3.5 mm.
Weight is 25 gr., so no problem with clenching.

Nice pipes. I don't know the compass, but I have seen popeye-pipes in the Danish Pipe Shop years ago - I think it's an early version of the basis?

Yeah I think you’re right. I got it a few years ago and shortly after they came out with the current version. They are awesome pipes.

Ah yes, the Eltang mini inspired me to a pipe in my own workshop. I hadn’t a carbon tube for the stem at hand, to keep it light. So I used a short enough steel tube to prevent the bowl tilting and fitted a light weight ebonite mouthpiece to the tube.

The Minis are a nice design.

Excellent pipe.... I unloaded mine only because I was cutting deeply into the collection and have a meer in the same shape and configuration. Compared to the Compass, the Eltang Basic's higher price is well justified IMHO.

Altinay has the "same" pipe as a meer, but I already has four meershaum pipes, so I went for the briar version.
I don't know the compass, but I'm very pleased with the Eltang Basic.

Nording and Tsuge have their own versions of these also. I have one of the Nordings. It smokes fine. I just don't smoke it very often. Actually, never, ha ha. I'm not sure why. I smoked it quite a bit in my studio when I got it, and then.... I just stopped and hung it on my bench.

I’m saving up for an Altinay CF meer to scratch the itch of that shape!

You have to grab it and start smoking it again
