Marxman pipes are ridiculously cheap.

This hand carved pre 54 Prince cost $24 delivered, and the brown bottom of the bowl means it’s very fresh.

Why are they so undervalued?

I have two top grade Marxman Pipes that I would say hold their own with any pipe out there. So far, I am confused as to why you are purchasing these cheap pipes? Is it a compulsion.? An addiction? Could it be unresolved attorney client issues? Just kidding. But seriously, my goal is to create a respect for the beauty of Marxman Pipes. Perhaps we need a thread titled, "Old Beat Up Ugly Ugly Marxman Pipe" so that you can post them in such a way that people don't confuse them with the better examples. No, I am not being disrespectful to your cheap pipes, but man, they do look ghetto. Which is why we need a ghetto thread for them. Don't you agree?

Yes, there were two grades of Marxman pipes.

They both smoke the same.

The ones that use this stem are high grade:

The pipes by Robert Marx are all severely undervalued.

This hand signed beautiful platuex masterpiece is languishing on eBay for less than $200.

Talk about ghetto!

My $13 Mel-O Pear came today, and it was nearly unsmoked.

I’m done with any other small pipe but a Pre 54 Marxman, to smoke.

The others are office decorations now.

Marx used the best briar in the world.

Isn't that what you said about ... you know who?
Kaywoodie before the war, I thought used the best briar in the world. And for beauty of grain that’s true.

Post war Lees are better than post war Kaywoodies grade for grade.

But after four smokes today in my new $13 Mel-O I’d like to eat this pipe for dinner, it tastes sooooo good.

It’s as soft as a marshmallow. It darkens as you smoke it. Little tiny beads of oil seep out. The pipe just doesn’t get hot.

I just got a satisfying nic hit from Waterloo, which is about as light as any blend gets.

I’m not the only one to experience pipe ecstasy from Marxman pipes.

My ugly Mel-O cost the same as a beautiful Drinkless when both were expensive pipes.

Wanna buy some Lees and 4 hole stinger Kaywoodies?

I’m selling a bunch.:)

Well, there goes the market, LOL. Flooded, quick build an Arc, LOL.

It is true, my Marxman Pipes are outstanding smokers. The difference in my pipes and your pipes is that I believe my having them reconditioned to the next step adds even more to their smoking abilities and sweetness.

For now, I have sold my last Lee that was what I considered to be a repeat of other pipes. The Lees I sold were ALL excellent smokers. I did hate to part with them. I just sold a pipe maker today and I'll probably sell a Dr. Grabow Linkman and a Willard Dublin and perhaps a Hardcastle Bulldog.

Why?

I two outstanding exemplars of Lees. They can't be matched or better.

I am wanting to add a Randice Rind and an Il Ceppo to my collection, both brand new and unsmoked.

It takes a lot of these dime store pipes to be sold to raise the cash for today's upper tier models. But no fear. I have excellent exemplar pipes from Pipe Maker, Lee, Marxman, LHS, Medico, Kaywoodie, Yellow-bole, Dr. Grabow, Willard, as well as others. I just don't see the need to have an outsized collection of lower end pipes that repeatively represent their genre of pipes.

I just sold $70 worth (two) stamped star Lees and spent $65 on this beautiful Marxman that has the deluxe stem.

Look at that tan color in the shank.

And it’s really pretty, not all carved up and no fills or any gouges to hide flaws.

I won’t know how to act around such luxury.

All my Lees are excellent smokers.

All my Marxmans are fabulous, out of this world, extraordinary smokers.

My dear old mother comes to mind, who was fond of saying if a man never took that first sip of booze he’d never become a drunk.

I done gone and tasted me a Marxman.

It’s a pitiful decent now, to find a 400.:)

Here is another nice Marxman, a carved panel Prince with no fills or gouges to hide flaws.

This must have been a Christmas present, smoked one half of one bowl.

Marx used the best briar I’ve ever tasted. Three smokes have darkened the stummel from tan to chocolate brown.

These are all I want to ever smoke.

While we’re on the subject of all things american briar, I just broke my dogmatic, “no estates” rule, and purchased this Kaywoodie. $25 delivered and it’s been fully restored with a salt and alcohol treatment. I honestly just want to try a pipe with a stinger as I never have.

I actually don’t even think this qualifies as a stinger at all but I’ll allow my ‘I need another pipe’ rationalization to stand.
