After applying to my doctor a while ago to get home oxygen therapy to assist with my breathing issues my respiratory nurse suggested I try a nebuliser first. I already had a Salbutamol (Ventolin) inhaler that I felt made no difference at all so I was somewhat doubtful the Salbutamol nebules* would work.
Well she arrived this lunchtime with a spanking new German made Pari Boy Classic nebuliser, and a box of the nebules to go with it. I already knew how to use it as I had watched a few videos showing just that but I still had to listen to the lovely nurse Hannah explain everything to me as I suppose that is part of her job.
After the first go on the device (which took all of 5 minutes) I felt pretty much the same, however to see if it had any effect I had to perform a few simple exercises to see if my Oxygen readings had fallen as they usually did to around 55%. Well what a surprise, my first reading on the oximeter after the simple exercise was 74% and after being at rest for about five minutes this had shot up to 89%.....a level I have never reached before. I was impressed!
Just so long as this first effort is not just an aberration then I reckon my quality of life will go up from a miserable 2/10 to perhaps a liveable 5 - 6/10, that would be so nice as it would mean that I can start to do more complex tasks without nearly collapsing through shortness of breath
It is now 4 hours since I first used it and my resting Oxygen saturation is an almost healthy 92%....wahay!
Regards,
Jay.
*Nebules are small plastic phials containing the liquid medication that the nebuliser converts into a very fine mist that is breathed in via either a mouthpiece or a mask. I prefer the latter.
