I would like to clarify my knowledge of the car business. I was a stud salesman. a money machine making Truck Manager and Sales manager and I was also a Finance and Insurance manager. I know evey thing there is to know and I know every dirty trick the dealers play on people.
I will never buy a hybrid as long as Toyota Corolla and Lexus are made with regular engines.
My oldest son got a Corolla in H.S and put over 300K on it. I taught him about fluids and filters ad explained if he was vigilant about them all the time the car would lest forever.
I got rid of my last Jaguar Vanden Plas as the lease was up and bought an old ladies cream puff a 2004 Lexus es 330 which had less than 5000 per year when I bought it .and got a great price as I went with 13k in one pocket and another grand in a different pocket. I offered the 13 and they took it. Book( aka Nada) had the car at close to 16000 clean retail which is what dealers price cars at.
After a few years I gave have that Luxus to my youngest son as I bought a 2007 Lexus rx 450. I stole it from a deal of all places. A car dealer The used care manager screwed up on the actual cash vehicle price and he gave me 2500.00 for a 500.00 rat, beat up piece of shit mercury Marquis. A few years later I gave my oldest daughter my Lexus cause her brother totaled her Camry. I ended up buying a Lexus ls 430 the big sedan that drives very nice. Eventually I gave that car to my youngest daughter and had to buy myself a Dodge Caravan for my wheel chair.
The used car market is a shit show price wise and I have no idea what is driving it unless companies like Carvana are paying incredibly stupid prices. One day I will play with them to see what the deal is.
As far as I am concerned nothing is as reliable as a totyota or a Lexus. Mine are still going strong with maybe only 150 on each one. Like any car if you pay attention to the fluids your car will run great.. I have never need a new engine or a transmission , or front end steering issues. Once every 5000 miles I do all my fluids and I am good for another 5.
The bullshit about changing oil every 3K is crap, most manuals say 7500. I do 5 to be conservative.
