I do use the dishwasher on jars, and I do use them again, and have not had a problem. Thorough wash and high heat dry... confident enough that the jars are good to go. The tobacco on the other hand....well, I've seen the places these fine treats are made and there is no way on earth that the tobacco I'm jarring is as clean as the jars I'm using. Still, I rarely have had a mold problem. Probably comes with the hobby to lose some from time to time.

I've always figured that the tobacco I bought in a tin or bulk wasn't sterile to start with so I regularly reuse jars infact I've not bought any jars since 2014. I've never sterilized a jar, infact I don't even wash the jars out between uses, I simply wipe them out with paper before reusing them.

I've never had any mold issues.

I've never had any mold in tobacco I have put in jars. I don't recall ever having a moldy tin either. I have a number of pounds of various Gawith flakes in jars. I put it up between 2004 and 2010. I never jar tinned tobacco. I do split up larger jars into 1/2 pint jars once I open them. I store my jars in a small closet sized room in my basement.
My question is, besides C&D stuff, are you getting mold in jars you've put up but have not opened, or ones you open and close?

In 40+ years I've never had moldy tobacco in my mason jars. I use the jars straight from the packaging - no washing or cleaning. They are sterile from the factory. I've never had a fresh tin with mold either. I guess I've been lucky there. I have had several rusted/rotted tins of GLP tobacco in those 2 oz tins from 2000-2004....took me for about 500 USD. Lesson learned on that shit.
