I remember seeing someone post a link to a very elaborate meerschaum recently that was up for bid at $50,000 ... they were trying to sell it as some lost artifact.

Ebay is ridiculous. There was a guy trying to sell a violin bow for $25,000 claiming it had been used by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. He had no certificate of authenticity but wanted you to take his word for it. Even if it was legit, get real.
I mean, who's gonna pay that price for that Upshall? No one.

As far as I know, some unsmoked Bo Nordh pipes were sold for 40.000$ recently. From the living makers, an Ilsted was sold for 24.000$.
