They've gotten worse here over the past few years. Use to I could sit out in the backyard with Bubba during summer months with little worry over mosquitoes. This year is the worse yet. Last year I should have looked closer into doing something as they bothered him last year. I really didn't know what to do about it until this year when I started researching what was out there-they've gotten that bad. I do recall seeing the Mosquito Magnet last year but it was even mor expensive than the one I just got and it was $385 counting the accessories but; a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
If it were just me I'd probably let it ride as they seldom bother me. However, they love Bubba a little too much and they can carry yellow fever, encephalitis as well as the West Nile virus and can spread heart worms in animals.I hope this unit works as I've seen on the videos.

Yep, that GS has a black back like Bubba. They'd lover him(her) like they do Bubba. Something about black or dark colors lure them.

riun the risk of being exposed to Histoplasmosis.
Baron, fact is, if you live in the Ohio or Tennessee River valleys or many other places accross the US you have already been exposed to it. Chickens, pidgeons among other birds carry it as well. My mother and my mother in law (both raised around chickens) have histo and it went to their eyes. My mother is legally blind because of it, mother in law has been a bit luckier. Most people just end up with some scar tissue in the lungs and never see any adverse effects.
How many bats do you thing you have in that box?
slownumbers, Right now I am pretty sure I have zero inside it but there is a roost nearby. They are very faithful to their current roost and will usually only move if they lose the one they are in. It can take 3 to 5 years for them to take up residency. A few keys to attracting them are; mount the bat house at least 16 feet high(mine is at the top of a 16 foot 4x4.) Give them a clear area to swoop in, this is important since the entrance is on the bottom. Finish it in a dark color to keep them warm and face it south to southwest. I found the plans on a website and built it in an afternoon. Just google it. And if you are having a hard time convincing your wife(I had to work on mine as well) take her outside on a moon lit nigght and just look up. Chances are you will see them, solidifying the argument that they are here already. Placing a bat house in your yard will only concentrate their efforts in your yard. An adult brown bat can consume 500-1000 mosquitos in an hour! And they want nothing to do with us, we have quite a few brown bats around where I am and they steer clear and eat bugs!

This puts it into better perspective. This bathouse can hold 15-20 and is on the smaller side
