Thanks everyone for the feedback! I sent an email out to C&D and 4Noggins - at least to let them know. But definitely puts a damper on me ordering that blend again. Happy knowing I've never had an issue with any other tobacco - Gaslight included.

Well, to let you all know - I got word back from C&D this morning, I'm pretty sure almost the moment they opened! Apologies and proposal to offer me a new tin! They asked for a copy of the production date stamp that I just sent out to them. They said they're going to arrange something with 4Noggins and should be getting back to me. So far, so good!

I've always paid close attention to these queries, as I wish to learn to spot it for myself.
Seems most of the time it's plume.
This time, even I immediately knew it was mold.
Makes me feel better that I can properly spot it for myself and avoid the risk if I encounter some.
Didn't even have to look twice. Good pics helped.

The feedback is really appreciated. I figured it wasn't plume, knowing it from cigars. Was just curious what to do with it - if the whole block of tobacco was finished or not. And to make sure I was right on it being mold.

C&D does not have a good track record when it comes to this problem.
First, I wanted to thank Shawn for reaching out to us to let us know about the issue he was having with Temple Bar, so that we could get him a replacement. This tin was produced on 11/18/21 and purchased in Dec. of this year. The tin had been opened and transferred to a jar and Shawn was smoking from it occasionally. After being opened for some time, this small bit of mold developed. We are working with the retailer to get both them and Shawn a replacement for the tin. We stand by our products and we stand by our customers. That is the way we do things, even on an older tin, and even when the tin has been opened and stored. I am proud that we do things that way and I think it speaks to the qualtiy and integrity of our products. Mold is rare, but when it happens we take care of it. That is our track record.

I know that we have had some issues, most notably back in 2016, that were very public on this forum and I have addressed these just as publicly here and elsewhere to make sure that customers knew what was going on and what steps we were taking to address it. But I also think that the impression some have regarding the prevalence of mold in our products is just plain wrong and I want to chime in here with some actual data regarding this.
Including this very instance of mold in this tin of Temple Bar, our molded product count is very low. 4 out of every 10,000 units produced. That is the rate of mold occurence for a C&D product from today to 1/1/13, when C&D became part of Laudisi. That includes the issues that we had in 2016 which was the height of our instances of mold and for that year, instances of mold still accounted for less than 1% of our total output. I am proud of that track record. If you look at our production from 2019 to today, compared to our reported instances of mold from that production timeline, our rate of mold is less than 1 in 10,000 units. 77 units (tins or bulk) with mold out of more than 1.5 million units produced. This is not a poor track record, and these are actual tracked data, not based on hearsay, impressions or memory. And these numbers include tins or jarred product that have been in people's cellars for years. Our track record stands pretty good I'd say.

A corner of my Temple Bar has this forming on a corner. Last time I sliced it off and smoked it anyway - don't know if I took years off my life or not. But what is it? Is it mold? I can rub some of it off with my finger. No strange "rotten" smell or anything like that. Just keeping it in a small mason jar in a dark file cabinet. If it is mold - what can I do? I had read somewhere someone suggesting putting it in the freezer. I don't want to keep slicing off to have it come back. And I can't really send it back to C&D from Canada - would be way too complicated. View attachment 226162View attachment 226163
What does the date sticker say in terms of when it was made?

It’s awesome that Jeremy came on here to comment on this! C&D/Laudisi have always replaced my moldy tobacco without question (it’s only happened twice but I love that they stand by their product), even if it’s from an aged tin. I had opened a tin of 2016 Savinelli 140 that was riddled with mold and they replaced without question. It makes me feel safe when it comes to cellaring their tobaccos and they do promote cellaring so it makes sense. To date, both of blends that had mold on them were from 2016, that is the only year that I get a bit nervous about when I go to open a tin.

Couldn’t ask for better customer service! They are a great American tobacco company! I hope they are around for many many more lifetimes.

Thanks Jeremy,
Just noticed your comment now. Your attention to the problem and quick communication is greatly appreciated. Now, just hoping I don't get stung with duty for a replacement tin. :)

What's amusing is that 2016 issue with CRF ... i just saw a tin up on tin bids with a $65 bid on this "super rare tin" ... good luck to the person that get's that LOL
